SUPER-DUPER MOBO PROBLEM~!~

Alright, see what you can see:

3 days ago I changed the 'Enhance DRAM Performance' to Enabled on my motherboard. I have an abit KX7-333R BTW. The guide that I got from Abit's website said just clear the CMOS with the yellow jumper if your system does not boot up after the change. So after I rebooted my system would not boot up and there was nothing displayed on the screen. I am getting no POST beep either. I've taken the CMOS battery out, disconnected the ATX power connecter, and left it there for a full night and it still won't boot. I know it is not my video card because i've tried it with a different working video card and it worked. Could I have permanently damaged my RAM? Is my motherboard dead? How can I reset my CMOS? All help is very welcome thanks a ton!!

Changing that "Enhance DRAM Performance" setting wouldn't kill your ram. Trying to overclock it to an insanely high frequency would. What else did you do?

You tried another videocard in the mobo and it worked? 😕 It sounds like your videocard is dead, my friend. CLEARER explanation, please.

ehh, sorry 'bout that.

ok when i put in a different video card it still didn't work, so I know it's not my video card.

oh yeah, and i also didn't do anything else -- except that the SPD on my RAM is wrong so the mobo detects it as 166 when you actually have to change it to 133. But it still works even when it is on 166 so I don't believe that is the problem either.

It sounds like you're setting something wrong in the BIOS. Pull the mobo battery for a minute or so. Replace battery.

Remove and reseat RAM. (It is PC2700 RAM, CORRECT?) Ensure ATX connector is plugged in THE RIGHT WAY and fully inserted until the latch on the side catches the tab on the socket.

Boot up. Make sure CPU fan is spinning.

Unless your PS or memory is dead you should at least get to the bios. If still no boot or beeps, try another stick of DDR...doesn't really matter whether it's PC2100 or PC2700

Find the "Load Failsafe Defaults". Ensure that your IDE devices are detected. Save and reboot. This should get you going.

Once you can load up your OS and it's stable, then go in and tweak things.

Well when I bought the RAM it said PC2700 but in real life it's PC2100 they just jipped me. : / Anyway, i've already reseated the RAM 3948293489 times, the CPU fan IS spinning. I've taken out the battery for a full night and it still won't work. ATX power connector is in the right way... I can't get any video so no changing anything in the BIOS... I will get another stick of DDR tonight and see if that changes anything. I'll keep you updated thanks for the help.

A lot of PC2100 (133MHz) will do PC2700 (166MHz) w/o breaking a sweat. If you bought brand-name memory, you didn't get gypped. 🙂 Now, if you bought "Joe Brand Memory" from some Mom&Pop store, that may be a different story.

OK. Fans are spinning. That's good. That probably eliminates the PS as the source of the problem.

Do you get any beeps from the mobo at all? Is the "speaker" lead from your case hookedup/correctly? Beep codes can be very helpful.

It honestly sounds like a memory problem. Try another stick of memory.

One other thing: double check to make sure that you put the Clear CMOS jumper back to the normal operating 1-2 postition as opposed to the 2-3 position. I have made this mistake myself and almost RMAd a mobo b/c of my error. 😱

lets place bets

ok well with that aside, moke sure the motherboard isnt shorting out on the case. That may cause your problems. If your sure everything is correct including the cmos jumper, and you have tried everything, take the mobo out of the case, install the bare minimum in it, and power up the moterboard by shorting the power jumpers with a hd jumper. see if that works as last resort

If you ask this question one more time in this forum, off with your head.

lol! okay, okay, i'll get a different RAM stick and put that in there and if it doesn't work then I will RMA my mobo. Thanks for the help people. 😉

Or I just might post my problem again....

lol.

Make sure the power is unplugged from your power supply when you clear your BIOS with the jumper.
Or at least that's what I've been told.
Don't forget to move the jumper BACK.
