So, black friday on newegg has a bunch of deals on all the popular items for a computer, like a 6950 and 2500k. I created this build from parts of sales going on in black friday and thought I could use the help of the forum to make sure everything is compatible, so without further ado, here is the build

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming gaming and more gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
900-1200
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
united States of America
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
Ati/AMD video, Intel cpu
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
monitor, hard drive, keyboard and mouse, case
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
yes
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
A whole lot of overclocking

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
1920 x 1080
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Midnight/black friday
10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.
kk

Build I set up......

video card: 5970 diamond 300$

cpu: i5-2500k - 200$

motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
140$

power supply: OCZ ZS Series 650W 80PLUS Bronze High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom
50$

and then some random case...

Can someone help me figure out if all this plays well together? I really need help on this and I think this is a good build but I cant be sure

Actually all of this stuff is already on sale, I just wanted to make sure it all would work properly together and not find out that this exact combination would make the computer explode

Ubuntu is popular but you may want to load Mint instead.
Blain, you are so cryptic sometimes.
. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
monitor, hard drive, keyboard and mouse, case
He's transferring the HDD; maybe the Windows install on it is transferrable as well.
and then some random case...
Wait, didn't you just say you were re-using the case?

Maybe you're confused because you lack memory? :sneaky: Just $30 for 8GB!

Edit: Can you get some of this stuff at Micro Center? $150 for a 2500k, not counting the $60 bundle discount on motherboards, in-store only tomorrow morning.

The CPU and mobo look fine and get the RAM that Ken suggested.

The GPU is a good deal in terms of bang for the buck, but a 5970 is an extremely long, power hungry, and loud card. It is also a dual-GPU card, so you have to deal with the normal Crossfire issues. So, I guess what I am trying to say is that make sure it is something that you can live with day-to-day.

Given that the 5970 is over 12" long, you will want more than just some random case. A HAF 932 will fit it no problem. Also, I'm not a fan of OCZ's power supplies. There is really no reason to compromise on quality when the Seasonic-built XFX 650W is $50 AR.
