Has anyone else seen the 18+ trailer for Super Bad. I think this is going to be the funniest movie of the year.

are you kidding? I was going to post asking if it's going to be the worst movie of the last few years.

There is NOTHING funny in it. The whole thing feels like a bunch of guys were sitting around and said "Let's make a cheap unfunny rip off of American Pie as though we only had 30 cents for every dollar of production funds that the original American Pie had." The characters look unlikable, and the actors are unlikable as well. I mean hell one of them is that annoying troll from Arrested Development.

Actually, are any of you old enough to really remember American Pie? I just realized that maybe some people here that would like Superbad aren't old enough to really have seen the original American Pie movies.

It does look great. IMO Judd Apatow and company have really brought back the R-rated comedy in a great way - it's a great change from the crappy Ben Stiller et al comedies that were dominating the marketplace for a while there (I like some of BS's early work a lot, but if every copy of Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, Dodge Ball, etc. were launched on a rocket bound for the sun, the world would be a better place IMO).

Similar movies to this don't appeal to me at all, but for some reason I'd actually like to go see this one. I find my self laughing when I see the trailers on tv.

yeah, looks like an anesthetized Napolean Dynamite, which was already "meh." This might be the crappiest movie of the year.

I've seen the American Pies (well the first two) in the theater and I think this looks pretty funny now that I've seen the trailer.

I don't see the correlation at all. FWIW I liked Napoleon Dynamite, but it has essentially nothing in common with Super Bad, other than the fact that both involve high-school students. The American Pie comparison also seems bizarre, if not quite as bizarre as ND.

Did you like 40-Year-Old Virgin or Knocked Up? Those are probably the best clues as to how this movie will turn out.

How dare you. :)

Zoolander is one of my all-time favorites. Will Farrell is classic in that movie, and the "Center for ants" line is a classic. Not to mention the fact that the movie was spot on concerning the emerging fashions in America. Think about it, that movie came out just as the $75 jeans with rips and acid wash were becoming popular. It was brilliant!

Dude this is NOTHInG like American Pie, maybe a genre closeness but the plot is nothing similar.

Annnd...Napoleon Dynamite was one of the most creative comedies in the stagnant pool...it was wonderful.

It's actually apparently based on the real experiences of Seth Rogen in high school (hence the fact that the main character is a chubby white kid with a huge afro). Every clip I've seen of (including the clean one Judd Apatow showed on Letterman, where one of the super-geeky kids has a fake ID from Hawaii that says he's 25 and his full name is "McLovin") has made me laugh.

I would bet this movie ends up at 80%+ on RT, and is all around vastly better than American Pie. I just find it hard to imagine that a Judd Apatow-produced movie written by former writers for Da Ali G Show isn't going to be great.

And going back a few more years; Try Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porkys, and Revenge of the Nerds

I don't mean the plot is the same. I mean the types of jokes look like unfunny rip offs of American Pie jokes.

That's interesting that it's real life based. I saw that trailer you're talkin about with the fake ID and I didn't think it was even vaguely funny. It's been done about 500 times.

My sister likes him (being an Arrested Development fan). She was in New York, met him, and got her picture taken with him. When she sent the pic, I was totally expecting a different George Michael based on the email heading.

This movie actually looks interesting. I definitely wouldn't say it's an American Pie ripoff when it is more along the lines of Freaks and Geeks.

Interestingly enough, the title reflects my feelings on how good I think it looks. Not to mention I've pretty much hated all Seth Rogen movies to date.

I saw it, almost fell asleep several times. Predictable, boring, and rarely funny.

The only somewhat amusing stuff was with the two cops and the kid.
