Sup, com?

In the midst of all the Starcraft 2 hype I didn't notice Supreme commander 2 was coming out. I liked the first one a lot actually and I'm not a huge RTS fan. I think the main problem with the first one is that no one could run it when it came out :p - So many units on the screen. Most PC gamers might just be able to run it now, 4 years after it came out or whatever. Still probably has slowdowns. Looks like Supcom 2 will be pretty graphics heavy also =/ - No hype for Supcom 2?

I've been looking forward to it very much. Steam is running a pre-order deal for $45 but I'm still waiting for a couple reviews for it to see if it's as good as the first was.

Probably because this game will do it's best to murder your computer. I dunno, maybe it won't be all that insanely hard to run as I think. Last time I played Supcom I was on a pretty old system, and it didn't really run all that bad, unless it was gigantic map with a million units.

Yeah I saw it on Steam and that's what got me thinking about it - I don't like to play RTS games online though cause I just get owned. Plus it'd be pretty laggy I imagine. I do like achievements though :D - Too bad you can't buy a four pack.

While the fanbois may always be groveling at the feet of the other SC, TA-SC-SC2 is by far the better series if you just want to play.

yup.

but like many others here, i played the shit out of TA, never got into supcom1 cause my pc wasn't good enough. now i have something that might be able to play supcom2 decently. i'll wait for the demo or maybe just go get supcom1 and play that.

Well, if you have the means, I would definitely play supcom1 with your new rig before supcom2. I think it's on sale on steam, with the add-on.

Killer game.

IIRC, SC2 is supposed to have lower system requirements then the first.

the big issue with Sup Com was it was horribly coded and would use all your RAM and then some causing a hard lock. I know I tried several different things to solve the issue even 64bit vista with 8gb of RAM would hard lock eventually. I think they revised the engine and improved the graphics for SC2, I'm sure they also changed/added units and maybe did something with a story line too.

I'm looking forward to it, but am a bit hesitant as well. From interviews with Chris, they have scaled down the sizes of the maps and have simplified the economy (don't know how they simplified it yet though) aka consolized it somewhat for the 360.

That being said, I did preorder it at Gamestop do to the current deal they have going for it if you do preorder. Get it for $39.99 instead ofr $49.99 and receive 2 bonus maps.

Better deal then Steam. Amazon has a deal where you preorder for $49.99 and get a $15 game credit good towards a future game purchase as well as 1 bonus map (different then both the Gamestop ones I believe)

Normally I don't complain too much about consolized games, but doing it to a strategy game really scares me, I will probably buy it because I loved the first one, but I really think this will be a huge disapointment.

Well it's receiving less hype due to the publisher being SquareEnix this time around. SupCom is a cult favorite; not a lot of the mainstream crowd actually like the game.

It maybe not be as obscure as Sins of a Solar Empire, but SupCom was always a niche title. People who tried it in good faith were shot down by horrible performance issues with the original SupCom. When Forged Alliance came out, it was too little too late and no one cared anymore. (I absolutely loved FA by the way)

In a nutshell it's probably best the game gets a quiet release. If it's as good as we hope it is, then positive press will build up and a good community should rise out of it. If it sucks, it sucks; nothing can be done about that.

i never actually had hard lock issues with supcom/FA. even on my p4 3.0ghz it would just insanely insanely slow.

on my current system i only start experiencing some slowdown on large maps with 4+ players

i hope they don't neuter the scale at all. i also hope that they keep traditional maps...the "installation" type one seen in all the demo vids seems cool, but i hope they're not all like that

I hope that they either remove the unit limit, or increase it by an order of magnitude. That was the one thing that annoyed me to no end from the original game.

Since the game comes out next week, shouldn't there have been at least one review out there by now? From someone, somewhere?

just placed my preorder at gamestop :D

It's adjustable to up to 5000 units per player...

it was easily moddable to whatever you wanted...not for online games i suppose. ranked games could never take advantage of it anyway

i always played on LAN with friends and online with friends. Were ladder games locked?

It's just a slider in regular MP games from 250 to 5000.

5000, nice, i didnt like the 1000? limit in the original. In fact i think the original unpatched version of the game didnt have a unit limit at all.

no, just the ranked maps were much smaller, so the unit limit was hard to reach. games were usually over too quickly. for me, anyway...i sucked compared to those guys

TA is one of my favorite RTSs ever, but opinions on SupCom 1 were quite mixed and I never got it. I might give this second game a try if they have fixed some of the first game's issues.
