Well for all those wondering why my wifi was open it's because I have a fon wireless router and so I HAVE to share to use the wireless part. And customers do have to pay, and I'm sure also click on terms & conditions that they agree not to do bad stuff. I do have logs showing numerous day passes sold during the period they are looking at:

This. It has happened. They don't even have to be your neighbours. Anybody could drive by and use any close signal for nefarious deeds. If you're into tech enough to be reading Anandtech, you should know enough to lock your wifi down. No good deed goes unpunished.
 
If he's responsible for the shit users downloaded while paying to use his pipe than Charter is responsible for what the OP sends over their pipes. Forward the letter to Charter, if not for a few laughs.

dude, get rid of the FON stuff...not worth the hassle over shit like this. In the mean time, I would ignore unless/until you are served with legal papers.

If I can give you one nugget of info it is this: When the lights go off at 8:00PM in your new housing unit, shit your pants. Seriously. The odds of someone raw-dogging your man-box are greatly reduced. It is still > 0, but not by much.
 
Wouldn't FON be able to provide some assistance on this? Perhaps they have a legal dept. that is familiar with this scenario, or can tell you about the Terms & Conditions a user has to accept?
