I got in on their last 400$ LG deal, it was the 32LH30 for 400$ shipped and 2% bing cashback. Now Im jumping on this, LG 32" 16:9 1080p LCD HDTV 32LF11 for 400$ + 10$ shipping and 10% cashback. One more and Ill buy a 5xxx series for eyefinity.

I havnt compared TV's, the only other Ive seen was a Vizio 42" 720P set my dad has...I think this one looks at least as good or better. Im happy with it for the price.

Seems like a great computer monitor when you want a big screen but a more modest resolution for lower end GPUs.
 
"supa hot" for a monitor but a huge waste of $$ for a TV. On a 32inch screen, the human eye can't perceive the difference between 1080P and 720P at a distance of more than 5 feet. If you want a TV and your couch is normal distance away, go with a 42-46 inch 720P set instead..

I have since yesterday been contemplating getting the 32" 1080P LG from newegg as a replacement for my 22" Samsung monitor. I want to use it for my PC and for my PS3. I won't be using it in a living room or from a distance. Will this be a good choice at this price for a primary monitor?

I've been using a similar model (LG 1080p 32") and its been a very good monitor. I moved from an NEC 20" (WMGX2). The image quality isn't quite as good (largely due to me greatly preferring the glossy finish of the NEC, and it being one of the best LCD panels made). The difference isn't huge, and while I love high pixel density, it has not been an issue (since I moved up in total resolution). My typical use is watching Hulu/Netflix/DVDs while browsing the web doing other tasks (playing Torchlight windowed), and its been great for that. It wouldn't be stellar for full screen viewing of that content, but has looked very nice with an HD feed. Xbox 360 is ok on it, about as good as can be expected since games aren't rendered natively 1080p. A bonus is the speakers, while obviously they wouldn't replace a decent set of bookshelf speakers, are actually pretty decent, albeit they use a diffuse technique which isn't good for close up (as most of the sound is pushed outwards in a way that's meant to fill the room with sound).

Annoyances: Glare is, actually considerably worse than it was on the NEC, at least it bothers me a lot more. I really am not a fan of matte displays though. The stand tilts the lower part of the TV outward just a bit, and you can't adjust this, which coupled with the (relative to most computer displays) large bezel and higher height isn't optimal viewing at a desk unless you're seating is adjusted for it (I can't really raise my chair height to do so as my desk is low).

Quality of the display is good, and while it was a slight hassle to get my computer setup for HDMI output, it hasn't been an issue since. Just needed to find the overscan settings in the ATi driver. Color quality has been good, and viewing angles are much better than cheap LCDs (in fact better than the NEC in this respect as it had significant purple/orange shift whereas this just looks a bit dimmer). Backlight uniformity is good with no big blobs like you often get with PC monitors, however the edges are a bit dimmer (looks almost like a shadow on the edges, that's the extreme edge of the screen though).

I bought it after reading someone on AVSforum say they had tried several 1080p 32" LCDs and the LG was the best they've found for use as a monitor. I've been pretty impressed with it, just really wish it had a glossy screen instead of bezel.
 
Yeah Dark I dont understand why people dont like 32's as monitors. They arent perfect but they do do things very well especially if you get a 1080p 32".

People need to try the idea or be more open minded before they bash.

I have the following TV's in my house:

65" 1080p Toshiba DLP

50" 1080p Panasonic Plasma

42" 720p Panasonic Plasma

32" 1080p AOC "Envision" LCD

32" 720p MAG LCD.

I have had all hooked up to a computer/laptop at some point. They all work well and are fun to watch or use as a monitor. However the AOC 32" 1080p is used as a dedicated Monitor in a TV/Media room. It is GREAT for that purpose. My GF is going for her masters in nursing (online) and Loves the TV on the computer especially for typing her papers and doing the other school work. She used to use a laptop but now finds the 32" easier to work with and better for the online things she has to do.
 
^^ exactly. I am not dumb, I know one can't expect from an HDTV what one can expect from a dedicated monitor. But it depends on usage. I like my monitor and find the size (22") perfect for my needs, however, I also will be needing a TV soon and I really have no room for a TV and a monitor together on my desk, I have plenty of stuff in my main room / office already and my friend wants to buy my monitor from me. So something that would be able to handle both my basic web browsing needs and to be able to use as an HDTV / PS3 gaming / Movie watching is what I am after. Add to that that 32" is the most I would go up in size for my desk and 1080p seals the deal for me. Not to mention ordering this monitor at a total cost of $370 (bing + shipping) is absolutely irresistible. I am so glad I was able to get a decent deal this BF. I can't wait to get my new monitor-TV!! Thanks ER for reminding me about bing cashback, otherwise I was going to order this without my $40 cashback!
 
What if I don't plan on using this at all as a computer monitor and ONLY want it for TV capabilities - is this a great deal, or am I better off going with a 720p Samsung instead? Will mainly be used to watch non-HD TV and HD sports.

Unless you can get a comparable quality 720p model for less money, I don't see any reason you'd go for 720p over this one. Resolution really is secondary to quality of the display, and this one is good in that respect.

You might do a Google check, and try adding AVSforum or review to it and see if there's any glaring flaws that have cropped up.

And my WTF comment earlier was directed at the link the person put in their post for seemingly no reason.
 
I don't get it; my 32" 1080P samsung monitor/tv looks just as good if not better than my 26" 1920x1280 monitor.

I don't care what you use it for, a 32" 1080P tv for $360 is a hot deal no matter what
 
The avs forums suggest that this tv has switched panel and the new one is not as nice as the old one.

...and the optimum viewing distance for a 1080 res 32" screen is just slightly over 4 feet.

slightly smaller even. Yet if you use 16:9 material, the 32" is fully utilized while the 27" is akin to a 25" widescreen

I stopped buying monitors and TVs online with Costco's return policy and extra year warranty. I bought a Vizio 26" and had it 80+ days decided I wanted a 32" Vizio 1080P 120Hz HTDV as my monitor and went back with the monitor, no questions asked gave me a $317 instore card to use on the tv. Picked up the TV and then the manager comes up and makes sure I know about the 90 day return policy and I kinda chuckled....

Who ever can't perceive the difference between 1080P and 720P at a distance should go see an optometrist.
 
There is one test that you can do and it has to do with games so to speak. I was initially planning on getting a 720p TV a while ago and noticed the channels/station numbers looked different on the 1080p version of the same brand tv. In other words The 720p circles/round objects are jagged compared to 1080p being smoother. Sorta like antialiasing. Less jaggies even at distance. I am not talking 20 feet here. I am talking proper viewing distance. Try it you'll be suprised.

However I disagree with the above statement.

For normal movie watching/viewing you cant tell the difference on a GOOD set at proper viewing distance.

There must be a lot of people that need glasses then.

his statement is missing information. "At a distance" could mean 14 inches, it could also mean 14 miles.

I suspect that most people consider a proper viewing distance to be whatever conforms to their couch placement. Look up SMPTE or THX viewing distance calculators to get an opinion from video engineers. You will notice a difference with those recommendations.
 
Got mine today and it looks great.

Serial number starts with 906 (june 2009) and from the service menu (hold enter on both remote and tv for 5 seconds) the panel manufacturer is LGD, S-IPS.
 
Yaaay got mine today and I just want to say that I AM EXTREMELY SATISFIED, it was worth it down to the last green buck! This is my first HDTV purchase and it's an amazing bargain I just have to say. This replaced my old loyal Samsung 225BW 22" LCD monitor which was a good soldier, but now it's time to move on to a bigger display. This is just an amazing multi-purpose display.

As soon as I got it, I connected my DVI-VGA USB Audio KVM switch , my PS3 and an Antenna (I don't really watch TV nor cable right now but it's good to have that just in case) and in matter of minutes I was up and running.

I had fear that text might not look sharp. Heck, this is as clear as my Samsung monitor if not better. And I am sitting very very close to it.

Everything about this LCD TV is nice, setup program, interface, multiple inputs, picture quality. I almost can't find anything to nitpick on. Well, maybe just one minor thing. The only audio output this TV has is Optical, it would have been nice to have pass through RCA outputs but I don't really need that heh
I am also happy that this is not a glossy screen, those give me a headache, I prefer matte displays all the way.

Additionally, viewing angle is much better than I thought it would be, not that I really care about that, as % 99.99 of the times I am sitting at my desk. I mainly got this for web browsing, school work and for my PS3 so that I can game on a huge desk screen. Call of Duty MW, Call of Duty WoW, Battelfield 1943, Dirt 2, GT5p and more all just look fantastic on a display this size and from my close viewing distance, fragging noobs never was this fun before 😛


The only downside to using this as a monitor is that it sits higher than a monitor on a desk, of course I expected that, but I will have to find a solution to lower it. Perhaps a mount is the best way to go, everything would be perfect if I can lower the bezel to desk level.
