For CS:

Use controlled bursts of fire. Don't hold down the trigger button except at close range because otherwise you will just miss from the recoil.
Move as much as possible. You stand still, you are an easier target especially for snipers.
To start out, buy the same weapon over and over and get good with it. A good one to start out with is the MP5 (keystrokes 3, then 1 on the buy menue).
You run faster with your knife out.

<< what kind of gear is good to start with? >>

CT:
MP5
Colt

T:
MP5
AK

If you want fun kills that make people accuse you of being a llama or cheating, practice and get REALLY good with the TMP.

CS is a great game!

I still think that people hack. No way that a individual gets a headshot like every other time. 25kills to 1 death. Right:Q

Yes, this is that game. Cheaters are everywhere. Your best bet is to find a server with admins present who'll kick the losers.

After you get comfortable shooting, reloading, and generally moving around, you can go for the HE grenade and armor to protect you from grenades.

You should also probably stick with the pack while you're learning.

Play on the HomeLan servers that require Cheating-Death. It's a program that prevents hacks and cheats from working.. More info can be found at Cheating-Death.com or HomeLan. Only servers I've been playing on.

My friend's server has every anti-hack in existence. Once when it was packed, my friend enabled them all and half of them disappeared. :D

With low-recoil weapons, circle strafe and try to aim for the chest. A good aiming practice to do outside of CS is to pick a spot on your screen, and try to move the cursor there instantly without missing.

And another tip, don't get too good or you'll get kicked and banned because they think your cheating. I play on all of the csguard, cheating death etc servers, but I still get called hacker.

Sorry for ranting, but I just got banned from another server. :disgust:

just practice a lot so you can get a feel for the maps. play 1 or 2 maps right now as u build up ur skills. when u start in the game, buy mp5 and kevlar until you have enough money to buy m4 colt, on terrorists side, just stick with mp5

Cheating death sucks donkey balls. Due to the way it works, playing on FF on servers is pointless and if you're playing with the headphones you will hear mono sound so you won't be able to tell from which direction enemy is coming from.

If you aren't in a big group you might want to walk while trying to sneak up on someone. If you walk they can't hear you footsteps.

Crouching greatly increase accuracy by getting rid of some recoil, but crouching in front of people makes your head an easier target.

Kevlar helps, anyone who says it doesnt help is wrong. It will protect greatly against grenades a some against bullets.

Grenades are a great tool if you use them right, but don't get caught holding a grenade for you won't whip your gun out in time. Try to make it so you can throw the grenade around a corner and hide while getting your gun out.

Always have your volume turned up enough to hear all that is going on for footsteps around you.

Newbies forget to buy ammo sometimes so try to remember it along with kevlar when affordable.

The automatic sniper rifles typically suck because they are pretty weak unless you trust your aiming a lot.

The higher the price of the gun, not always the better.

Don't keep on alternating which guns you buy when you first start playing because different guns require different playing styles and techniques.

The rest are secrets :)

Does anyone remember the CS command to change the max fps your computer will run at? I forgot...

Headphones are a big help; they will allow you to determine where footsteps/shots are coming from.

Don't be afraid to "camp" (hide and wait for the enemy to walk by and shoot them from behind), especially when on defense. Often frowned upon on the servers where kids have just migrated from nintendo, but considered an art by the more mature crowd.

Watch the rest of the game after you are killed. You will quickly learn the major points of engagement, camping spots, etc.

The terrorist glock pistol is a bb-gun, buy a deagle in the first round.

Try to avoid these embarising situations if at all possible:
Killing yourself with a HE grenade.
Killing yourself by falling off a ladder, roof, etc.
Getting Knifed to death.
Getting Glocked.
Getting killed by kids under 7 years old.

Once you become addicted (it happens) you will probably want to write some scripts (macros) for buying equipment, sending messages, etc. with just one keystroke. Info is all over the web on this subject, just do a search when the time comes.

Good Luck,

I'd rather buy a USP than a Deagle if starting as a T.. You get 59 rounds instead of 21, 12 per clip as opposed to 7, and it shoots much quicker.. Of course, I've been basically using the USP with MP5/M4A1/AK everytime I play so I've got good at it..
