It was still available a couple months ago. I really doubt it'll be pulled anytime soon. It works really nicely. Nothing else was working for me.

I'm really glad your skin has cleared up on it, and Ima let you finish, but I was the best pizza face turned clear skin of all time, of all time!

No seriously:

Accutane is a popular acne medication that has been taken by as many as 16 million people since it was first introduced to the American market in 1982. The drug has since been linked to severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and was discontinued in the United States in 2009.

There is a reason you go in for monthly blood tests and psych evaluations. I was 100% fine. Acne cleared up and my blood work was still phenomenal after 8 months.

Accutane is great.

No doubt most of the 16 million people that took it didn't develop ulcerative colitis, but for the ones that did, it must really suck and I'm sure they wish they'd been warned.

Apparently zinc supplements help with acne. Just make sure you don't take too much, or you'll need to take copper supplements with it as well.

Yeah, it's pretty potent stuff. They also tell you that if you're having unprotected sex to stop while you're on the treatment. If you get someone pregnant they highly advise the girl to have an abortion due to the side effects. Highly regulated highly monitored.

Wouldn't abortion be the recommended course of action for any children of the OP regardless?

I took tetracycline for years and it didn't do a damn thing. Later I took accutane and it cleared up in 3 to 4 months. Accutane was pretty harsh, painfully dry skin, chapped lips and itched.

The dry lips was unreal, but it's fucking worth it. Tetracycline, I was on that for a few months... it didn't do anything. :/ After getting on accutane for a while and then getting on it where I'd actually eat it with food(Before, I'd only do this sometimes. It's basically worthless if you don't eat it with food) .... BOSS. It worked very well.

I did some benzonaide creme and tetracycline. Worked for me, but I didn't have very bad acne at all, usually just like two or three zits a month.

Sorry to necro (well maybe not :awe: ) but for those that took accutane, what was your dosage and weight? From what I'm reading on the internet and from what I know from people in real life, the two are related and I am finding a consistent mention of ~2mg per pound body weight as a maximum, i.e. those with the most severe acne. I have fairly moderate acne (not a single cyst, just a few whiteheads every week or so) and weigh ~130lbs, yet they're starting me with 80 mg/day. Am I going to die?

...they're still prescribing accutane?

i don't know about 2mg. i remember trying it in high school and i seem to remember it being like 20...it was very effective, but i did not complete a full 'treatment,' as i enlisted in the army and i didn't know MEPS was gonna friggin' disqualify me...

my face cleared up completely in basic from a combination of sun and sweat, but returned afterwards. i still don't have the best complexion but it's 1000% better than my adolescence. luckily my face is weathering extremely quickly to cover up any blemishes. hooray...god i'm gonna look like shit at 40.

80mg is a lot to start at... 2mg per pound is more than a lot. It shouldn't even be 1mg per pound. If you eat that stuff WITH FOOD(If you don't, it just makes your piss really expensive) then 40mg is more than enough for 130lb. at 80mg, bring on the pain.

My acne just flared up really bad this past week. It never went away entirely, I would just have some small zits on my forehead. Now I've got about 10 massive cystic zits.

I've done several medications from various dermatologists, but Accutane was the only thing that worked. I really don't want to do that again.
