Yesterday i opened my sunroof all the way. Now it wont close. When i press the close side of the button i hear nothing. When i press the open side of the button even though its open all the way i can still hear the motor noise trying to open it further.
I always used to have the flip open position all the time but yesterday i opened the sunroof all the way after a long time.
I tried the changing the fuse but that doesnt help. All the windows do work.
Anybody have any clue?
thanks
also anybody in central or north jersey recommend me a mechanic?

i found the solution. Looks like if i open it all the way it sometimes get stuck! So they have a allen key to manually wind it. Once it came out of the edge the button started working

You may have to relube the guides in the track. I have not looked at the sunroof mechanism in my car (also an E36) but for the windows I do know that the plastic guides to often fail and crack. Could be a similar problem for the sunroof.

You should check bimmerforums and see if anyone has similar problems.

What is the purpose of the sunroof. I mean when you open it air dosen't really come into the car unless the windows are open so is it only for letting in sun. Pardon my Ignorance.

i open my sunroof and have my air vents sourced from outside and the air from the cowl is sucked in like a vac. try it on the highway. drive with re-cir off. windows closed and sunroof closed notice the air then tilt it and you will notice how much more air goes thru your vents.
