BOGO is back! http://www.sunrocket.com/

Back again for today is 2 years of Voice-Over-IP telephone service for $199 for 2 years, plus about $10 in taxes. They do not charge for equipment and shipping, and seem to have no hidden fees. It includes all the features you expect from a phone service, including unlimited calls to US and Canada, Caller ID, Call Waiting ID, Call Forwarding, 3-Way Calling, SimRing (rings up to 3 alternate phone numbers at the same time), Voicemail (with email and text message delivery), 2 free monthly directory assistance calls, and $3 monthly credit toward international calls. They have a 31 day return policy.

Nice... Hopefully they will have a promotion running when I am ready to renew in about a year.

Oh thank you for finding this. I'm on hold with them right now.

I was told that if they offered the 2-4-1 deal within 30 days of renewing you can get credited the extra year. Since I renewed 2 weeks ago, hopefully I can get the second year added on.

Well, looks like they renigged on yet another promise. Apparently the last 2-4-1 you could re-up with a renewal but this 2-4-1 is different and only for new people. I wish they'd get their act together over there.

I may sign up under my wife's name and get the 2-4-1 and then just cancel my account. Just not sure if I can transfer a phone number from one sunrocket account to another. hmm.

Since SunRocket won't credit me...a loyal customer, with a 2 4 1 deal I'm seriously thinking of jumping ship to ViaTalk. Anyone else done this and what is your impression of ViaTalk?

Me either, so I switched to Viatalk where you can still get that deal. I'm in the process of having my number ported over.
GT did George also switch?

I'm also thinking about switching to ViaTalk and getting a refund from SR. Anyone used both that can speak to their service comparison?

I jumped on the 4/27 deal with 2yr for $199, already got the equipment and using it. All features seems to be working great! I like the feature of "Find Me" forwarding, since you can forward to your cellphone when you are not home, and never miss a call! Cancelling my AT&T local after one month, which cost $27 / month with just call waiting. .

apexi350z - where is the 4/27 deal? it is still early April here.

It's time to renew my SR one year contract and I'm open to suggestions.

Apparently ViaTalk removed their 2ys for $199 offer. Have to wait if it comes back. SR is very unlikely to ever let people renew on one of their offers so I'm going to ditch them most likely.

I called SR last week and even though they were not running their 2 year promotion for &199 any more, I told the customer rep that I if they wanted a new customer they would have to give me 2 years for $199. She said that she would have to check with a supervisor, and when she came back she said yes. The bad news is that a lot of people are ditching them now, hopefully my service will be good for 2 years.

What with the info in Granorense's post, it appears that YMMV.
S/R apparently gets aggresive at the holidays, like Mother's Day & Memorial Day, both of which are in view.
Edited: Try them for the two year deal a day or two before the holidays - even up to the holidays.

Come on guys.... There is a reason that this thing is so cheap. It does not work..... Don't get something just beacuse it is cheap, get it because it is a deal. I cannot believe this SunRocket gimmick is still marketing its service by misusing this forum....I hate to cra(b) this thread, but be aware of this companie's technical capabiilities. It simply cannot deliver what it promises..

What are you talking about exactly? I've had SR for over a year and it's been fine. Much more reliable lately than it was at first. Haven't had a major outage for quite a while.

But I'll still dump them if Viatalk gets the 2/$199 back.

In defence of Sunrocket, they largely kept their deal for me after a year and counting. Besides the rate, I got a free phone kit that works fine, two numbers, fax capability, free Canadian calls and international credit that actually mean something. Even the point rewards are no joke! (I was surprised one point turned into exactly one buck) Except for a few (rare) hangups I tolerate, I wouldn't worry about renewal if I had not been happy so far.

Like everyone else I'd like to save a buck if I can, but if the difference is not much i can also be loyal or too lazy to change when a product works out.

I've had SR for almost a 1.5 years now...at first my wife was ready to kill me because of the problems...but that lasted about 1 month...since then we have been extremely happy and she wouldn't let me switch over to Viatalk because she likes SR so much now.

TheTurk, Can you please elaborate on that statement?

Sunrocket has delivered to me, and we are VERY satisfied paying $8.23 a month for unlimited calling and dirt cheap international rates. We have only had a couple outages that were more due to our provider than to SR.

So please, by all means, give us your data that they "can't deliver", because I see a ratio of about 40 to 1 in this thread saying they can.

My cable has gone out 3 times more often than Sunrocket over the last 2 years.

In fact, the power in my house has gone out more often and for longer periods of time.

And I certainly would not describe the power to my house or my cable service as services that "Do Not Work."

Sunrocket has largely been a good service as far as I'm concerned and I've had no problem turning half a dozen others into happy customers. Is it perfect? Of course not. But even when you do find that mythical perfect service, I'd probably never switch to it if the trade-off is a price 3 to 5 times what I'm paying now.

He was someone who tried the service about a year ago and had bad voice quality. It seems a call to customer service didn't fix him, so he left. He then accused a couple people of being sunrocket shills, because if it didn't work for him, it won't work for anyone.
According to him, this whole thread and any others like it, is just a marketing ploy by presumably a non-existant company.
(I added the 'non-existant' company, just because it wouldn't make sense for a small(?) company to employ people for a product that does not, and never has, and never will work.)

But i'm a happy customer, even if it's a one-man show. As long as that one-man keeps connecting my phone to the phones of everyone I call, i can't complain.

edit: OK, so I can complain... about billing/renewal (see the post 3 down from here)

Hey, I'll be the first to admit I was skeptical too. But I tried it. I'll admit I thought a couple were shills too - read my early posts in this thread. I even accused them of as much. But the fact in the end was that it worked the way they said it did - and when it didn't they had answers for me as often as not.

If you read the reviews for voip on the net, you will find complaints about EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. As far as I can tell, this stems as much from ignorant users as it does from any true technical problems. Think about your parents trying to fix their own computer, ten figure out how annoyed they'd get if it was their own PHONE.......

I had a couple issues initially with voice quality, but I spent some time on the sunrocket forums, and I adjusted my internet traffic and it cleaned right up.

So if he wants to provide actual data, that'd be great. If he keeps simply ripping on this deal without any real points, I'll end up reporting him. VOIP isn't the panacea of all phone problems, but it sure saved a boatload of money for me.

Well, I'm officially a disappointed customer.
A little over a year ago, I called in for the $99 2nd year add-on renewal -- and even got a confirmation number.

It never showed on my online account info, so I kept notes regarding the details of the call just in case this day ever came.
My account was recently renewed.... at $199 (+usfc $) -- NOT the expected $99.

So, I emailed SR... and they have responded that the confirmation# I gave them is for someone totally different -- and there is no record of any $99 renewal on my account.

I'm extremely unhappy -- and so now I'm looking to bail. What's the best inexpensive phone service out there that has a competent billing department?

Repeated billing errors at Qwest is what caused me to bail on them --- and now this, with SR.

Don't get me wrong: SR as a service w/lots of features is great. I'm just fed-up with inept billing departments/systems.
I'll look into ViaTalk as mentioned by several people a few posts up. Any other good alternatives?

You're not the only one that's said that SR is reneging on the $99 add-on - other users at dslreports have said the same thing. They changed policies this year after the new ex-AOL mgmt came in and it's very difficult to get that price for a renewal now, even if they said they would before.

And their billing is totally messed up according to multiple reports on dslreports. I was lucky because my account had just been charged the full $199+USF for a renewal after I ported to ViaTalk, but they credited me back the full amount after I canceled. Others have not been so lucky - one user said that he had been billed $199 a MONTH since December, and it's still ongoing after numerous exchanges with them.

I am coming up on my one year mark, so I have to decide to either stay with Sunrocket or try Viatalk.

Ridefree What are you currently using?? Do you think that Sunrocket will have a deal for existing customers around Memorial Day????:)

btw I am 75-80% happy with Sunrocket. The fact that I got the $99.99 for one year deal makes those percentages very liveable.

Sunrocket said I could have the $199 for a year with 3 extra months free.

Still waiting for a better deal.
