Were you uploading a file at the time? I noticed that if I am uploading while on the phone the other party says I break up. I'm on dsl & have a lower upload speed
NOPE...I wasn't using the computers at all...and I've got my router setup on the QoS to give priority to the Gizmo.

It happens to my wife all the time (so, I've got to listen to her b1tch about the sevice).

Anyone???

I was testing this out last night and noticed when I had my upload pegged I had the same issue. My dad was clear but said I was breaking up. I suspect if you have download pegged the person you are talking to will break up. What is your max upload rate?

I could be wrong - but I don't think he's talking about him breaking up to the other person on the line - I think he's saying they can't hear him AT ALL while he can hear them just fine.

I've had this happen occasionally as well. Very annoying when it happens after waiting 30 minutes in a queue for a customer service problem...

You are correct...that is exactly what is happening. The person on the other end can't hear a word I'm saying but I can hear them just fine. And as I said, it happens when I'm not using any computers at.

If you don't have QoS enabled, you shouldn't be uploading or downloading max while youa re on the phone. Common sense would tel you that it's going to hurt the call quality since it's all on the same internet connection.

Also SR has issues every so often so always log onto your page at SR and see if there's a bulletin. Also call the 800 number and many tiems there's a recorded message that they are experiencing issues...

I also wanted to add that I've been using SR as my sole phone for the entire year (no cellphone either!) & I'm happy enough that I'm renewing.

Since you are hearing the other party (using much higher DOWNLOAD bandwidth) what you are experiencing is the same as what the other posters speak of. Sometimes incoming breaks up or sometimes the breaking-up is so severe that they can't hear anything (or if they do, just the occasional fragment.) It is definitely a bandwidth issue. The UPLOAD speed can't keep up with the "data transmission."

Test your UPLOAD bandwidth with this test:

http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=97

Concentrate particularly on the UPLOAD bandwidth. If it is anywhere below 200 at any time, you have a bottleneck. I have seen computer problems (certain adware like winfixer 2006) steal so much bandwidth that the internet phone became unusable. Same with viri. If a computer is "on" it is a potential drain on your overall bandwidth, even if you are not actually on sites actively downloading. In one case I found the upload bandwidth reporting ridiculously low, even though there should have been double of that value present (around 105 to 110 was showing for UPLOAD bandwidth when the account should have piped in 256k.) A call to Roadrunner tech support showed a problem on their end, and they fixed whatever was thinning it out. Once back to 256k (or close enough) all phone issues disappeared for this person.

I would probably run the tests, then shut down all computers for the day (or a certain time period) and see how that goes. If indeed the issue happens to your wife all the time, see if they somehow disappear on her with the computers shut down. If there is a difference, see what in the computer could be draining so much bandwidth, even in non-download state.

Nice! I bet you've saved a bundle compared to what you would be paying with a cell and landline.

Thanks Georgpa for all that information...I will run that report. I too am on RoadRunner so I'll call them if the report is unsatisfactory.

Good call, GeorgePa!

Good to know its nothing on SunRocket's side, then I again, I would imagine more people would hear about it. I feel like bandwidth issues are going to become more and more prevalent as the ISP's/cable companies battle it out for Turf. I expect SunRocket to come out on top of it all!

Ok...I did the DSL report and here are the findings...
3805 / 475
Your download speed : 3805 kbps or 475.7 KB/sec.
That is 4.7% better than an average user on rr.com

Your upload speed : 475 kbps or 59.3 KB/sec.
That is 9.9% better than an average user on rr.com

Are these good numbers?

Thanks

I'd answer, but I'm not so tech-savvy. :)

I am, however, getting pumped to go to Germany next weekend. Still no word on whether there will be broadband in the hotel room for me to try SunRocket out with, but I'm bringing it for sure.

More and more, one begins to believe that Georgepa is in cahoots with Sunrocket. I started getting that feeling reading his posts here - his instant denials of issues, along with glowing reviews of sunrocket.

Then, in researching, I discovered they have the same complaints with him over on DSLReports.

Ripped from DSLReports:
Georgepan,
I really don't want to take this thread any further off topic than it already is - but - I read a lot of posts here in DSL Reports and yes, most of your posts do come across as commercials for sunrocket.

Personally, I do not have (and have never had) either sunrocket or Viatalk, but have tried many providers. I finally find myself with the need to tell you something, your "commercials" for sunrocket actually turn me off from their service. I realize that you allegedly have no real connection with this company, but it is impossible for us non sunrocket users to gain fair knowledge of sunrocket's true service - your constant presence and "sunrocket does no wrong" posts simply distract from the original points being made, cause people who have real information to post (both good and bad) to avoid the fray, detract from your credability, and actually do sunrocket more harm than good - IMHO.

I think you would better serve sunrocket by allowing users to truly and openly discuss sunrocket (and for that matter other providers) without taking every thread into the toilet with the sunrocket is Perfect posts.

Now I must go put on my flame retardant suit and wait for your reply.

Just my 2 cents.....

George, if you like them, say so, then for god's sake let everyone else talk too.

No it isn't - I just signed up for it. Did you even go check the website?

Oh boy, LsDPulsar. What a cheesy attempt at a personal attack from someone who has never contributed with a single post to the discussion about Sunrocket. Neither in this new thread, nor in the old, 1yr. old thread. Probably enough said about your post, although it should be noted folks like yourself just drop agressive bombs in threads (thread-crapping) to never be seen from again, or show up once every 6 months to "argue." We'll see if you are different somehow, although I don't hold out much hope that there will be productive or interesting "talk" coming from your end. I hope I am wrong with that assessment.

BTW, the 2 yr. $199 deal is no longer offered. You could not have "just signed up for it, " and the website does not have it either. Big snafu. We'll be awaiting your "talk" about this provider with anticipation, though (at least I am.) :D

OK, I've never heard of this from a customer service before...... (boy was I impressed)

I was having probs with voicemail -- only working about 70% of time. Cust svc sent the issue to level 2 tech support, they followed up within about 24 hours and said they fixed it. Seems like it works fine now....but not the end. They did a follow-up call after 7 days to see if it was still working ok (it was), but agreed to keep the ticket open and follupup in another 7 days just to be sure.

FYI -- I'm impressed. Good cust svc like this goes a long way to keep me happy.

You're right - the deal is for one year. I did mis-read your question.

Georgepa, the fact remains. You come across as a complete Sunrocket Fanboy, and that turns alot of people off. As I stated, and evidently more than a few people have wondered, you come across as someone trying to sell their product. That hurts YOUR credibility.

This isn't a thread crap - it's a suggestion for you, much as the folks as DSL Reports suggested the same thing.

I happily await the day that I confirm Sunrocket works as advertised so I can turn off my obscenely expensive POTs. I should receive the equipment on Tuesday, and I'll happily update this thread - as obviously I am NOT a fanboy.

No complaints here. DUmped my landline a few months ago. There have been a couple times (2 I think) where we had some issues for part of a day where sometimes we coudln't hear the people but the poeple could hear us. But they were always fixed relatively quickly and it was no big deal.

I recommend SR to everyone I know that is thinking about getting on the VoIP bandwagon.

That's awesome azoomee. They're going to follow up twice to make sure it's working? Wow.

Ive had sunrocket for 6 months now. The voice quality to good... while it works. My service goes down about once a month when they push out new updates. I have a complicated firewall and network which contributes to my problem. If I had a regular, "consumer" level network and firewall, I'm sure I would experience less downtime.

The customer support has to be, unquestionably, the worst in the world.

All in all, for the price, i'd say its an ok deal. Ive not tried other voip so I cant honestly compare sunrocket service to anyone else.

hondaman--are there any other ways you can set up your SR around your network to make things easier? Sounds like you've got a virtual bird's nest of connections making your life miserable.

Mine goes down about 1x month also, but that was my expectation -- so no issue. Wife and I both have cells to overcome that issue. If my internet goes down (as it periodically does also) I realize that I will also lose phone -- expected as well. :)
