It's an unfortunate reality in a survival of the fittest type universe, that if we didn't someone would blow the shit out of us. I know that might be too siencey for you, but it's the best I can do.

Also, great pic!
And a sad testament to how pathetic our species is.

We come far enough that some of us no longer need to fear death by large predators or starvation, and so what do we do in what would otherwise be considered by most species to be a utopia? We turn on each other, and then continually rationalize that this is the best way to do things. We even go to the extreme of glorifying warfare and fighting as some inherently honorable thing. Granted, there are acts of courage and valor on the battlefield, but would it not be better if such individuals could use their positive qualities back home, for peaceful, constructive activities? I find little honor in the act of intentionally killing or injuring someone else, over what are generally petty disagreements.

And now back to your regularly scheduled non-hippie programming...
I wonder if it would also be possible for some kind of frozen surface to produce this glint of light? A frozen lake can reflect light quite well too, assuming there's no snow covering it.

Sad? Last time I checked death is a requirement for evolution (betterment). When you take this tack, you overlook some obvious facts. Who is more sad, the realist who knows life has certain unpleasantries and is willing to accept them and act accordingly, or the altruist who simply wishes things were different based on some impossible ideal.

Utopia... For starters, I can not imagine a more boring place.

Pathetic? Last time I checked we are the fucking PINNACLE of evolution. Have some respect.

Wake the fuck up.

Miss-understand evolution we do. There is no less to greater prime mover in evolution. We are in no way at the pinnacle of evolution any more than slime mold is.

No misunderstanding. I realize that everything living is equally evolved (assuming everything descended from a single ancestor). By pinnacle, I mean we are the most conscious of our environment and the most capable of understanding and changing it to suit ourselves.

Get off the annoying Yoda-speak, nerd.
