Sunlight (Physics)

Suppose you had a treadmill in space that reached from the Earth to the sun. Say the treadmill is powered on and spinning such that the "top" tread was traveling towards the sun at 0.99 times the speed of light.

Now, let's say the sun goes out instantaneously. Ignoring the effects of gravity, would it still take ~8 minutes for the last of the remaining sunlight to reach Earth, or would the treadmill almost hold it in one place, since it's moving so fast?

Decent parody. I was excited, hoping for a great one. But it is just missing something and this falls a bit short. I'm not sure yet.

That is a big treadmill. Do you buy the treads in bulk? Maybe 10 lbs each?

Hmm, but without the sun, how would this solar powered treadmill function? Would it slowly drift down to 0 velocity? Or, would it quickly reach a standstill. This has a slight impact on this thread discussion.

Doesn't have really anything to do with this thread, but I thought I would just throw this out there.

If we wrap him in copper, would he generate current? 😕

That one actually made me lol. This "confused" smiley helped on the whole overall effect too...

can sunlight run on a treadmill? 😕

If it matters, let's say the photons have tiny wheels.

Also, the treadmill is solar-powered.

awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111oneoneoneoneoneone

.

we will need to know if the bulk treadmill is alternator shaped or transmission shaped
the tiny photon wheels interact differently based on the bulk treadmill shape, i think

Did the sun REALLY go out, or did JL Gatsby's ego just get in the way? 😉

Also: In Soviet Russia, treadmill powers SUN!

I have to admit, the late addition of the implications of a solar-powered treadmill in this hypothetical situation gave me a slight chubby.
