Sunglasses help for the ignorant!!??!!??

So I see this little display at the local Costco and it shows what "polarized" lenses do. Well, after losing a $100 pair of sunglasses several years ago, I vowed to never buy expensive sunglasses again,..........BUT.........

I have to admit that it was really nice to be so easy on the eyes when I put those "polarized" lenses on. Inside the store I guess is not the best test, but I'm guessing they'd get ride of that glare that (no matter how clean my cheapies are) is always there whenever you get harsh or direct sunlight.

Well, I saw this pair that looked really cool by Rayban called "Sidestreets". The particular pair I saw were mostly rectangular and kind of brownish. Well, when I went to the Rayban website I was simplyl overwhelmed. Brown, grey, clear, red, silver, then the shapes, rectangular, rectangular-wrap, etc. etc. And the materials..........APX? GPM? GPS? Poly? Metal, plastic, friggin' etc. etc. etc. and friggin' etc.

I give up. I thought I was just gonna look for the cheapest price on the ones I saw at Costco. I didn't know that there were mathematically 1,235 different possible variables. Suddenly it got "not fun". ??????????????????

Go with a "friend" and ask them to pick out which ones look best on you.
Or go for a pair of Oakleys.

 

For driving, get polarized lenses. Get wraparounds if they look good on you too, since they provide a more complete protective area. I have Oakley Minutes and love 'em.

After parading around Oakley's site a while, I noticed they seem to have a "limited" offering of "POLARIZED" shades.

Is "polarized" something new??

And since they offer so many "non-polarized" shades, are there more situations where you'd rather NOT have a "polarized" lens?????

FWIW, I do think the oakley site is a little better done, but still overly extensive and their prices are friggin' nuts. The day I spend over $100 for a pair of shades, someone really needs to shoot me.

For cheapies, how does one spot a polycarbonate lens?

Brown polarized lenses are just about the best things you can use for driving. They offer excellent contrast over the grey/black lenses and you simply are doing yourself a disservice by not going with a polarized lens.

The glare reduction makes for much easier, and dare I say, safer driving. The *only* real negative you get from polarized lenses is that they kill the ability to read some LCD displays. I've got some satellite radio receivers in my cars and the screens are just black if I have my polarized glasses on. They also will dim out the LED clocks and radio controls in your car.
