Sunbeam 4 channel fan controller

I'm planning on getting this fan controller and I need to know if it is possible to swap out the LEDs that are in there with some other ones. I was hopeing that somewhere they have some green-red leds instead of the blue-red ones that are installed already. Are the leads 3mm or 7mm? Is there room and does it look pretty easy to do? Will I need anything special to do this?

Anyone know where I can find those leds?

In my mind it shouldn't be more then soldering the leds that are in there now taking them out and soldering in the new ones. There might be a slight problem with length and all but I see no problems otherwise?

Anyone have any ideas/comments?

The LED's are plugged directly into the PCB but the leads are plenty long to solder to. Should be a fairly easy job so long as you know how to sort out the polarity.

Yeah, that's not a problem. Now I just have to find the LEDs I want. I'll have to swing by Radio Shack and see if they have some. Doesn't anyone know what size they are? I looked on forzencpu and that had 2 different sizes of leds that they sell individualy, 3mm and 7mm. If someone can let me know I would appreciate it, i'll be making an order from some places and I'd like to order the leds along with my stuff for one order. Thanks.

The LEDs measure 5mm in diameter. They seem to plug into the PCB with some sort of socket which should make it even easier to change them out.

I just installed my Sunbeam last night and have to say I'm impressed; it works great and the LED switching feature at 7 volts is nice. Some fans don't like to start at less that 7 volts so it's nice to know when you're getting close.

Good purchase for only $20 🙂

Ok, thanks for the help Nessism, it is a dual colored LED right?

Cheapest I have found it is 29.99?

Also, what kind of a fan would shut off under 7 volts? I'll be buying some fans I need to know what to look for.

Jab-tech.com has it for $20. I just received mine from there.

I'm not sure which fans undervolt the best, I just know that less than 7 volts may cause a problem with some fans. I have both Panaflo's and Yate Loons and both under volt well. Some fans also tend to click at low speed which kind of defeats the purpose of throttling them back to reduce noise.

The best site for quiet computing is SilentPCReview.com Poke around there and do some key word searches and you will find LOTS of info on different fans and such.

Good luck.

Ok, when I went to sunbeam's site www.sunbeamtech.com and looked at the pics that they have of the controller is looks like the fans are daisy chained together with molex Y cables? If I use all 4 channels am i going to have to buy some molex Y cables? I see that it comes with one. How does it control the fan you want if they are just daisy chained?

The controller has four channels. Hook your fans directly into the controler, or daisy chain them together, as you see fit.
