Sun Microsystems Tumbled

Probably is, but in general, Sun is losing marketshare to Linux. (RedHat, SLES, etc) Proprietary Unix systems are losing marketshare in the medium-sized business sector and some larger businesses have been pulling their systems because support costs run so high.

I don't know about Java royalties, etc....

The company is stable, but Sun would have to have something big cooking to get the prices above $16 again.

downtrend over 1 year - check
downtrend over 3 months - check

i'd personally avoid it, but i'm not looking for long term investments.

I have to agree. Their marketing plan stinks and they really do not want to change it.

What do they even sell today? How are they still in business?

That's what I've been wondering. It's also funny how they are trying to become a player in the virtualization market.

I'm not sure they're going to be around forever. Seems like people aren't as hot on their products as they once were, and Sun never diversified itself to branch into other fields.

Darn, that's why I haven't picked up any volatility in SUNW lately, I used to trade it a lot. :frown:

Anyhow, because a stock is down 20% overnight certainly doesn't automatically make it a good deal.

They'll sell you overpriced hardware so you can runny shitty Java apps on their crappy OS. How can you go wrong?

Yeah I used to trade SUNW too. One of the former four horsemen. I remember when the stock was $100/shr. It's one of the few stocks I got out in time during the dotcom boom/bust.

Why this company haven't sold all its assets and distribute the proceeds to the shareholders is a mystery. The company as is is just paycheck machine for the management goons.

Overpriced is an understatement.

If they do under will that mean MS Virtual Machine will come back? 😛
