Sun Microsystems Monitor

I bought a sun microsystems 21" CRT monitor. My friend told me it had DVI... but since then I found out what a DVI plug looks like and its not. From left to right its got 1 big pin, the set of small pins (two rows) and then two more big pins. I looked on the sun website and found:
Video input Connectors: HD-15, BNC
Cables included: HD15M/HD15m 1.8 meters and HD15/BNC 2 meters

Is this server related?

I asked in the video section and no one knows what it is. Hopeing my hunch might be confirmed here.

Thanks.

Sun used to make their video connectors that way.
I believe their current models don't use that any more.

I know you can get an adapter for the Sun machine and make it compatible w/ regular monitors. Not sure if they have something similar for the monitor.

Ok, so thats just a sun particular connection... like to connect to older sun video cards? I thought it might have been to connect it straight to a server or something..... ?

It has a regular vga also. So it works fine.... I just wanted to know what the other thing was.

there are converters to use those on regular VGA, we have some. Congrats on a nice monitor, I have a few that I use around the lab.

A friend went with me to get it... He said that other plug was DVI and that it was a $700 moniter. I believed that it was a DVI (never having even heard of DVI.... yeah I know....) but not believing it was $700.. I guess I was wrong.

$60 at a computer show. I guess I got a deal.... hopefully it will last.

Thanks for your help. Sorry the post was in the wrong section, just thought it might be here... but y'all helped anyway!

If it's the connector I'm thinking of it isn't Sun specific. I think SGI used them too. A couple of my Sun machines have those connectors, and so does my one remaining Sun monitor. 😛

It "was" a $700 monitor; maybe more back in pre-2000. 🙂

Those 21" CRT monitor, even if it's multi-sync instead of fixed-frequency, does not worth over 100. They have regular HD15 connector and a 13W3 connector. The 13W3 can be used for Sun Creative series graphic cards.

matrox made good gfx cards for this monitor.

but i bet u werent looking into that.

u might be able to find some adaptors or even invest in an old sparc system for another 60 and really learn something about the whole sun and solaris bizness
