everyone and anyone that hates sun computers please reply to this message. i want to see how long of a list of different complaints, gripes, and problems people have with suns and pretty much sun computers in general.

especially reply if you have read any interviews with scott mcnealy. you know the ones that totally trash microsoft, I know sun's os is no gem either. so come on. reply see if we can get it up to like 200 replies or something.

Since the beginning of time man has longed to destroy the sun.....oh wait.....umm....nevermind wrong sun.

Because Solaris is a piece of trash.

Complaint 1) The /tmp folder and virtual memory are mounted on the same partition and if they together exceed the total partition size, the system crashes. No warnings, no nothing. Just crashes.

Now if you have some programs that make use of the /tmp folder and don't clean up after themselves properly, then after a while, suddenly you won't have much Vmem left, and the system can just drop on you for no apperent reason.

Complaint 2) CDE. Granted it's just a window manager and you can use different ones, but if you are using a computer at work you don't always have that kind of flexibility...

I don't actually think they are priced that badly though. A Sunblade 100 isn't that bad. It's only $1000. You could build a pretty good PC for that, but the SB100 makes a pretty nice Unix server/workstation if you want one for a small scale application. And $1000 isn't to bad, since it comes with everything you need to run it including a pretty decent little display.

Sure the high end stuff is highly priced but that's meant for companies that toss around multi-million dollar IT budgets.

The caps and ctrl keys are reversed 🙁

Actually, my 4x55MHz UltraSparc is pretty friggin phat.

i hate sun computers. with that crooked logo that looks so clever because the last two letters are the S for the next go around...

They insist on all resumes being sent to their company in .txt format - meaning that our recruiting company has to repair all the .docs sent to us to keep them from looking like total trash when we send them to Sun.

Well that is a little harsh, since SO will open Word docs, but anybody who sends their resume to Sun as a .doc should be dq'd right there.

I have no beef. Except they should make Java easier to understand. And quit letting them come out with new specs!

Why use proprietary, potentially virus containing binary formats when you can use the ubiquitous .txt?

Not all of their keyboards are wrong. Half of the keyboards I found here at work are wrong and have the same caps/ctrl layout as a pc keyboard, and the other half have corrected the stupid pc keyboard layout.
