Sun 21" Flat screen monitor $379

I have several of these, they are very heavy monitors but kick ass. All of mine have dual input on them. These also have the Sony Trinitron tube.

Edit: I don't think this one is mine, it may be a older model, this one here, second one down, looks like mine but doesn't have dual input.
 
Well the ones I get with the dual display and that are 21 inch retail for 1295. If this has dual display this is a flaming hot deal.
 
Shitty deal. I used to buy these things all the time. My cost was 150 in lots of 10. someone on Egay has been selling the same ones for 250$. They are dual input. DB15 and 13W3 you'll need a male-male DB15 cable to hook it up though. or a converter to use the attatched 13w3 cable. The monitors are sweet though. SONY trinitron tube....same model as the GDM500PS according to the FCC-ID on the back. I've got 5 set up at home on three machines right now....they kick ass. Weigh 82 LBS or so....does 1600*1200 @85HZ............but for 379 without shipping this is a bad deal
 
I have an older Sun 21" monitor from a couple years back. It's sitting at home collecting dust because I got suckered into buying it without knowing that it's only Sun compatible. Is there a way to make it work with a PC and if so, what type of cables and coverters do I need and where can I get them? If anyone would be kind enough to answer my question, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
 
CrayGeee - I have been using some Sun 20" monitors for a couple of years now. I think the model number is 20E20. They are fully multisync Sony flat screen monitors. They are 18.25" viewable and they have the built in 13W3 cable. I was able to find the adapters on the internet for about $17.00 each, but I don't remember where. They also had them at Frys for $25.00, but I haven't seem them there lately. I know they are on E-Bay. Sun has used multisync and non-multisync monitors, so a straight adapter might not work. You might have to get one with dip switches that lets you put in the settings. I have been very happy with my monitors even though they are supposedly .31 dot pitch. I will PM you if I find out where I got the adapters. You need to put that 21" to work. My deal was just the opposite of yours, I scored a good deal on the monitors because they DIDN'T know they could be used on a PC with an adapter.

I don't think the current deal is very hot. I have seen Sun monitors all over the internet for super cheap. This might be a hot deal if you have a Sun Workstation, but I would rather buy a good PC monitor and just use an adapter to work on Sun.
 
Is that a good deal? If you get one from someone who mistakenly bought it thinking they could use it with a PC, you can really score a deal on them. I found a couple of Sun monitors at show. It said "$50" on it. 21" GDM-20D10 (Trinitron). So I'm looking it over trying to decide if I can actually lug it home and the guy at the table says "You don't want that. It's fixed-frequency and won't work on a PC."
I said "What frequency is it fixed at? I bet I could get it to work."
He says "You're the first person to even ACT like you had a clue about it. I'll give it to you for $30."
Now he's twisting my arm. I really want it, but I KNOW it's extremely heavy and the thought of lugging it out to the car in the heat was daunting my good-deal sense.
So then he made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
"Give me $30 now and come pick it up at the end of the show. If I haven't sold this 17" sitting next to it, I'll give it to you free just so I don't have to take it back to NY."
SOLD! 17" and 19" trinitron for $30!

Depending on the model, you will need an adaptor or cable or both and a video card that supports the necessary refresh rates and resolutions (my 20D10 does only 70Hz at 1024, 1280 or 1600). You may also need a card that supports composite sync. I also have a GDM 1962B (19") which requires composite sync, and I used an ATI card to drive it. That one has a refresh of like 72Hz, but a friend of mine "modded" it to go at 70Hz. Also, ATI cards (at least older Rage Pro and prior ones) support strange refresh rates.

You should be able to find some good data on the web.
 
i can get these new here for like $200, i know a dude that works for sun. I dont have one because it wont fit on my desk, but i have used them and they kick ass... but yes, they are HEAVY and BIG
 
I got one of these off the for sale forums a year and a half ago for $400 and its a awsome monitor. I would gladly buy one of these again. Its been a wonderful monitor but its not completly flat. Its slightly rounded still.
 
We had some special video cards at work designed for Win NT that allowed sun monitors to work perfectly..we had like 10 of the 20" floating around...my buddy at work ended up carting two of them home.
