Summer Legal Internships?

Hey everyone...im a Pre-Law student at West Virginia University and my advisor is completely retarded, so i was wondering if anyone out there can help me out....Is there any where to apply for some legal internships over the summer?..they can be anywhere in the country..I just need all the applications I can possibly get because I really want a summer internship...thanks

Those are all lawyers on this forum. I am a 1L at USC and I am looking for a summer job too.. haha...

I thought legal internships were usually after 1st year of law school. What exactly does pre-law entail? Is it poli-sci? Maybe you can get a co-op position in your field.

As far as I know, most law firms only give internships to people in law school. Your best bet is to apply for a part-time or full-time JOB as a legal secretary or file clerk. You will get paid and you will get to see what a law office is like, but they will not give you any "legal" work.

I dont know what that means

Sorry, the people I quoted are lawyers on the board. I'm also a Poli Sci / Pre-law emphasis. My school (UCF) does pre-law internships in Orlando so contrary to what's been posted above, they exist.

OP asked about legal internships and you are talking about pre-law internships. I suspect there is are a few differences. You probably don't have to be on a legal track to be a court runner for a firm.

What is a pre-law internship? There is no such thing. You're correct in your assertion but then it becomes a job, like LordSegan stated previously, and not an internship.

A pre-law major gets a legal internship.

You are the one that mentioned pre-law internships, I have no idea what they are.
If you have not completed the 1st year of law school I doubt you will have a traditional legal internship. You won't be doing legal research and writing briefs for the other associates/partners. You will be a court runner at best; which is a job that doesn't ask for a legal track in school.

edit: AFTER you start law school, you can interview for legal internships. Check with your law school placement office.

You could always go to a law school. A lot of firms usually have little gatherings at local restaurants for different year law students. You could try and work your way in there. Even in the event that it doesn't work out, you get free food.

You can get hired as a file clerk or a runner in undergrad. Good chance to see how boring/stuffy a law firm really is. /thread
