Yes, its a state school but still, at least some company has to look at him right?

It's kind of difficult for someone to look at him, if he doesn't put himself out there.

THAT is TridenT... and that's why everyone is being hard on him. He EXPECTS everything to fall into his lap without having to work for anything.

He is the perfect example of EVERYTHING wrong with the Entitlement Mentality of American Youth today.

I think Amazon changed then. I looked into what Amazon wanted. They had some pretty strict requirements for internships. They weren't like, "Hey, as long as you have the drive, we'll totally take yah buddy!" It was more so like, "Hey, as long as you have the drive and these five hundred programming languages down."

Hell here is just a sample of it:

Software Development Engineer Intern/Co-Op – here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Strong object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C++ and/or Java, preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform)
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, relational databases and optimization
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
  • Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through abstract thinking
  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science/Computer Engineering program (or related technical discipline) with at least one term to finish after the completion of the Amazon internship

I got an internship at Microsoft. That position had a pretty fairly lengthy list of stuff I had to know. I hardly knew any of it being a EE major (not CS).

Like I said earlier, what you know doesn't really matter. What is matters is how you think and whether or not you're capable of solving problems.

People are being a bit too harsh on Trident. This isn't 2007. Back then, I remember almost every junior in college was able to get an internship. Now in 2011, its impossible to get an internship. I know someone with 3.8 gpas(in engineering), president of the professional organization chapter, full scholarship through school and he still can't get an internship. Yes, its a state school but still, at least some company has to look at him right?

I definitely agree that it is hard right now... but as far as trident tells the story here on atot -- he isn't even trying. For those that do try, like your friend there... well yeah... it's tough, but he'll eventually pull through with something.

He could eventually not pull through with something. That's the problem. It's not anywhere near plausible for me.

I don't know when Leros got his internship, but I am skeptical he did it when Microsoft started firing people.

So then why did you start this thread if "not anywhere near plausible" for you to get a job?

yeah theres a lot of woulds, coulds and ifs... but you'll have a definite "no" if you dont try :-/

Nah. That shit would be too easy.

Seriously? I'm guessing you are being sarcastic.

Pro gamers actually have tons of skill and spend HOURS every day honing their playing skills. It may sound like fun and I'm sure it is but it's also a full time job and you actually have to have talent.

Applied for an internship at a place. Wrote what they wanted, did what they said. I am a decent fit for it. Pay is more than enough.

I'll be talking to someone about it tomorrow to find out how long it is before I get an interview. I don't want to wait over a month to schedule something. (That would be most problematic with everything going on)

Don't rule it out if they say interview is far out, and don't be too pushy if they can't give you an exact date. You lose nothing by leaving your options open and, if you get a job between now and then, you can always decline to continue the process if they call you later.

This is really the only thing that seems to be a possible option for me. The rest of the jobs/internships I've been looking at are further out of my reach. This one is pretty close to ideal for me because it's so entry level, but at the same time... I know there are people who are applying who are well overqualified for this internship I applied for.

I'm going to ask a few questions tomorrow like how many have applied, chances, and when to expect an interview.

The only thing I am banking on with this internship is that I am HOPING that many people don't know about it.

Talked to the lady. She told me to not worry too much. Gave more advice. Talked about it a bit.

I'm screwed though. Over 20 people applied so far.

Chances of me being the 1 out of all the people who will apply at the last minute to get hired.... impossible.

I'll be lucky to get an interview.

Why would you think no one else would find out about this internship? Smart people are going to apply to multiple internships. You hoping on a single one shows how bright you are.

Thats the way to think about it!

 I am realistic and set my expectations accordingly. There is no reason to think higher.

I mean, ATOT thinks I am worthless... thus I am worthless, amirite?

Well you sure as hell aren't going to prove us otherwise. That would cut in on your sitting around and self-loathing time.

Yes. You've yet to show any redeeming value and only of a selfish lazy pathetic I have an excuse for everything loser.
