Summer Job

Allright i'm looking for a summer job. I don't want any hermit eyesite destroying fat growing computer job. I'm allready guaranteed $500 a month because I do freelance web design (but only for 1 hour a day 5 days a week). But besides this I want a real job where I can meet new people (NOT CUSTOMERS) and get out, drive around maybe, or do some light load lifting (no construction).

So what should I do? I was thinking maybe one of those forklifter guys at RCWilley or something similar, how do I go about getting a job like that? Throw out whatever Idea's you want, i'm planning on going into computers/business as a profession, I just don't want to do any hardcore computer stuff this summer because i'm sick of it. I want to meet new people, expand my horizons, and get the hell out of the house. I'm wishing I would have gone up to alaska as a fisherboy like my cousin did last year, but it's to late for that.

By the way I'm 18.

<edit> if it matters, I have previous work experience as a full time professional web developer (company went out of business :( best job i ever had). And Tech Support. So I know i'm overqualified for any of these high school drop out professions.

hehe yeah I saw what you posted ;). I'm saying that I want a "high school dropout" type job for a summer just to get away from the computers. I'm going to college this fall and just want to do something different before I leave.

Why would you want a "High School drop out" type job when you could make alot more money working with computers?

<< UPS or FedEX guy! >>

Expand on that. By the way, do I get an employee discount (get to keep 5% of the boxes I move? ;))

You know i'm not sure. I don't want to be couped up infront of my computer again all summer. Sure I made mad bank last year, but I didn't really meet any new people, nothing new or exciting happened each day. I don't know it's only for 3 months so I figure I can pack in a new experience before I go to college. I'll be happy with $10/hour, and i'm sure i'll do some other web/graphic design on the side besides the $500/month guaranteed money, besides i'm still living with my parents so it's not like i'm supporting myself.

<< Waiters at restaurants with high prices get bigger tips. >>

Heh my only requirements are 1: no food anything at all. 2: no customer support or customer interaction at all (I have no patience).

I want to drive a damn forklift :D

I'm not mapping out my career here, I allready know i'm going into business/IT, it's a 3 month job to get the hell away from computers. I sure as hell am not expanding my horizons by crunching code all day, i'll atleast learn something new and meet people besides geeks if i'm driving a forklift.

I drove a cargo van to earn extra income when I was younger. There was a lot of "think time", lots of driving :D, and LOTS of lifting and shoving. My route included a number of stops where I could chat with people, too, as I lugged heavy boxes past them :)

I LOVED IT!

you need a license to operate a forklift. and forklift operators make a decent living.

i'm thinking of getting a job at Home Depot...sure it's retail but it would involve a lot of lifting, and one of the few advantages of working retail is you get to meet a lot of cool co-workers...i still have a lot of friends from my old job at K-mart.
