Wow it got really hot really fast and now my puter is on the fritz CPU temp was at 71 C!!! so it would restart So i opened the case and havea fan blowing in for now making the CPU temp 61 C and the system is down at 40C which is still to high for me. So i wanna know a cheaper new heat sink/ fan I can get for my PC rather than the stock one whichperently sucks. I am currenty running a 1.4 thunderbird and on a PC chips M817LR Mobo any one have a favorite heat they could recomend Im not made out of money but i still am willing to pay 25~30 bucks for a decent colling unit. Thx guys.

Dang, what case are you using and how many and what kind of case fans do you have? More info is needed about your system. I would personally put an thermalright SK-6 on there with a 80mm panaflo. Should run about $35 all together but the peace of mind is worth it.

Wow, even a retail heatsink/fan should keep you running cooler than you are currently. I will second the amdskip's suggestion on the HSF. Try some more efficient thermal compound as well, such as Arctic Silver III.

The AMD retail cooler is inadequate for higher speed Athlons in some cases!

The 1.4 GHz cpu really cranks out heat. What is your actual CPU voltage? At the stock 1.75 volts the 1.4GHz Tbird is running about 70W.

Cheers!
