Summer Europe Travel

So, I'm thinking of traveling to Europe this summer for one or two months.. Any of you are thinking of doing the same thing or have done this before?
My rough plan is to fly to London, then go to France, Swiss, Italy, possibly Greece.. then you're kinda stuck there unless you backtrack.. maybe fly to Germany and then visit the Scandinavian countries.

thoughts? know of cool places to visit?

I can't speak for other countries, but Finland can be VERY beautiful during summer 🙂. If you are up to it, you could go hiking in Lapland and witness the midnight sun (literally!) first hand.

Austria, definetly. Viena is one of the most beautiful cities I'v ever been to.

Some parts of Germany are amazing also.

Denmark is one of my favorite countries and even if you dont have kids with you, go to Legoland 🙂

Iceland is my home so I ofcorse recomend it. If you like nature you will love it, one of a kind 😀

Yep, barren wasteland as far as the eye can see

😉😀

hehhe.. 🙂

Iceland is kinda hard to get to.. Unless I fly Icelandair that gives free stopover in Iceland.

I was thinking of renting a car for a week to travel around England.. then buy the railpass for the mainland Europe. Too bad my bday is in May and I'm turning 26.. 🙁

anyone knows the difference between 1st class & 2nd class train?

hehe yeah exactly, your view aint blocked by big trees or anything like that... since there are hardly any trees here

but its pretty 😀

I see you're getting all the standard recommendations. Sounds alot like my last trip to Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Greece, and Turkey). I ended up taking a cruise through the Greek Isles as one of the last legs of my trip. Listen to me -- skip all the bullsh1t. Go to a freaking island, whether it be one of the Greeks, Capri, whatever. Trust me, it beats out touring old churches and grape/olive/wheat fields and major metropolitan areas. All there is are beautiful women, gorgeous beaches, wonderful food, excellent wine and other spirits, and everything is cheap cheap cheap (well, not on Capri 😉).

Hm.. I almost wanted to skip Greece because someone told me that it's too hot and crowded during the summer..

but werk might have changed my mind.. 😀

thanks, conjur on the ebates link.. didn't even think to look there for extra savings.. 🙂

Really don't miss the Czech Republic and PRAGUE - the most beautiful city in the world many of my American friends say when they went there. I think it should be promoted more because it certainly deserves it.

A friend and I are doing the same thing: Greece to Norway with Eurail for 2 months!

Greece (island of Naxos), Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway

That's true of the mainland, Athens is a fvcking hellhole July & August. Stick to the islands, man! 😀

Luk is correct, Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I have EVER visited. Amazing city, gorgeous architecture, cool people.

<< Summer, eh? Go to Ibiza!!! 😀 >>

Ibiza? 😉

I'd get a Euro-rail train pass. You can get one so that you have unlimited travel for a month or two. That way you can go where ever and when ever you want. have fun

I have an american co-worker (he married a finnish girl and lives in Finland now). He told me that when his family from USA visited him in Finland during the summer, they thought that he lived on paradise on Earth. Summer-cabin, next to a beutiful lake, awesome weather, peace and quiet, beatiful scenery... Then his brother visited him in the middle of the winter, and he wasn't as impressed 😉.

You're very lucky to live there, Iceland is someplace i've always wanted to visit. Isn't it true that lodging there is VERY expensive?

Czar, can/did you post some pics? I'm really intrested as I've never seen Iceland, even on pictures.

no problem, I'll gather some pictures I'v taken and upload them in a minute

N8Magic,
everything is expensive here ... sucks.... I want my damn logitech z560 😉

I went to Europe during spring break... had an awesome time.

landed in Paris, and took the first fast-train out of Paris to Amsterdam... spent a weekend there (the most awesome place in the world!)... then went to Berlin, Munich, back to Amsterdam for the second weekend, then to Paris for a couple days

definately get a Eurorail pass...

OH, and I second the tip on Rick's book 'Europe through the back door', even though it sounds like a cheap pr0n flick title

<< nice pics Czar..

so is it like... cold in Iceland or what? 😀
>>

with a name like that it must be cold 😉
during the winter its something like -5°c up to +5°c, during the summer its from +5°c up to +25°c, with exceptions ofcorse

I'd recommend London, Athens, Paris, Brussels (for a few days, not too long), and Istanbul. London is kind of a party city if you know where to look. Another party city is Thessaloniki (Salonika), Greece. They have a 1.25 mile waterfront completely lined with bars, and they start drinking at 3. It's kind of like a resort/summer city for rich Greeks. And Greek women are hot 🙂. Amsterdam is kind of a different party. 🙂
