Hey I posted this over at slickdeals too but doesn't seem to be showin up (yet). Oh well it's my first time postin a deal here too since I don't find too many of my own deals, and this is probably obscure enough for most people that I can get in on the hot deal section lol

Don't know how many of you are into collecting or using swords, but here's something for those of you who do. Found a place called Sukotto Swordworks that has an offer for buy one get one free of its own swords. Was a little hesitant since I've never heard of these guys before, but after lookin around there's actually some reviews from people who've bought from this place that say the swords are pretty decent quality for the price and the service is nice.

Here are the links for reviews and comments for those who're interested (buncha pics too in the first review link):

After readin up on the swords I went for the deal and am planning to keep one for display and use the other for practice. The buy one get one deal is for the Sukotto Swordworks swords (only three of them available, I got the Dragon and Rose), but they have several other brands/types around on the site too. After shipping and tax it came out to about $196 for me.

forgot to add the link

looks like the only difference is the handle cover where they have a rose, dragon, or samurai.

//krunk (^_^x)

Did they say if it cuts cleanly through a human? I hope so coz that's what ninja swords are for. Anything less is a toy.

*sigh* I always wanted one as a teen... Now that I'm adult, meh. Who am I kidding, I still want one...

Kinda like a bit from Seinfeld's standup. He sees a kid looking in the candyshop window, and says, "Y'know, I could buy ALL the candy in that store, but now that I'm an adult, I don't want to." and he walks away... 🙂

My friend once took a "high quality" katana sword once, marked down from "499.99 retail dollars." He used it to chop down a small tree but the blade broke in half and few in the air. Had someone been in the way, a finger or two might of been lost. If it doesnt say the grain of the steel, I wouldnt trust it. Its nothing more than a katana from ebay then is it?

er...for one thing...what was your friend doing using a katana to chop down trees, small or not. That's what axes are for lol

And about the sword breaking off....sorry but that sounds like your friend got jipped. Your friend's "high quality" katana must have been super brittle or poor quality stainless steel more for display than for use. If it was a super brittle blade, you'd have to be a rather highly advanced user to make a completely clean cut without damage to the blade. Grain really has nothing to do with the strength of the steel. What's more important is the type of steel used.

But again, katanas generally aren't meant to be used for "chopping" down trees anyway. Katanas are made for cutting through relatively soft material...flesh...tatami mats...prisoners....lol etc etc. Serious cutters (the non emo-type lol) practice on tatami mats, but casual backyard cutters like me just use water bottles or cardboard tubes and the like.

If your friend still intends to do a little tree choppin...there are stronger steels that may withstand the kind of torture of standing up to harder objects. But again a more advanced cutter is needed to minimize the damage to the blade. Brittle blades are more likely to chip than softer blades, but they are more resilient to cutting things harder than tatami mats and the like. You should look into blades made with 9260 or 1060 steel since those are the stronger types of blades made these days. If you really want to know more, google up katana steel guides, those could tell you more. There's also a brief steel guide on the site I ordered my katana from if you wanna check that out.

anyway enough with the lesson! It is kind of weird to hear of buy one get one free for katana swords, but hey...can't beat the price lol

wow, very nice OP. I might jump on this later whenever I can get a hold of more $$$$. Already got a cheapo set from ebay, now, for the more hardcore $hit.
