Suit question

I have a job interview tomorrow and the recruiter asked me if i had a suit or at least a jacket. I had neither so I went to get one. The store didn't have my size so they had to order one, which arrived today. Everything fits fine but the jacket.

It's too long in the sleeves, the shoulders seem really huge, and the armpits are really low, like 3 inches from where my armpits actually are. it doesn't look or feel comfortable or right to me at all.

I have no time to get it altered or replaced.

so I guess my question is, should I still wear the jacket or not?

Yikes, you do not have any like sized friends or relatives you could borrow a suit coat from. Honestly if worse comes to worse go to your local thrift store they have tons of suit coats and you may get lucky!

none. i was never measured. its a basic off the rack type suit. they just went by my coat size.

Kohls has nice standard sized Ralph Lauren suits for like $200 total.

I have had mine for years and it looks and fits great.

Go buy one and return it the next day

i'm a big guy so i doubt kohl's and ralph lauren even make anything in size.

I wouldn't wear it either. Slacks, a nice shirt and tie should be fine. As someone suggested, you could wear sweater over your shirt and tie for added effect.

edit: like how big? 50+? You might be suprised at the range of sizes Kohl's carries.

You don't own a suit or jacket and, apparently haven't in a long time if ever yet, you think you know what the jacket should look like on you? There are no tailors in the delightful city in which you live? I live in the backwaters of the US where bolo ties are still considered formal and could find a place to alter a jacket in a couple of hours. Try putting a little effort into job hunting cuz, let me tell you, the current job market SUCKS!

Yep - if it doesn't get tailored right, don't wear it. Also be sure to wear an undershirt. TOO many freaking people have a nice dress shirt on, tie, nice shoes, etc...but then you see the nips. WTF people!? The belt color matches the shoes and NEVER wear white socks.

A decent alternative to a jacket that would help take the imbalance away is a nice set of suspenders. Yes, business-class suspenders.

I was in the exact same situation two years ago, but managed to find something that fit pretty well off the rack.

i have no idea what that means. the lats time i wore a suit was in 10th grade (i'm 28 now). and the most dressed up i've been since then is khakis and a polo shirt. i've worn jeans and t-shirts to work for the past 4 years.

You might want to go check out some department stores. Most will have a large selection of sizes. You can just pick up a sport coat and wear it with slacks and a dress shirt.

I was in the same situation last week. Went to JC Penney and picked up a $400 suit for $75. Had my Mom hem it, you can just go to a fabric store if you have to and get it hemmed same day.

Why not, you're 28 and you don't down a suit and don't know where or how to buy one. Can't really make things much worse.

Go find a local rental shop, they'll have suits/jackets you can rent for the interview. Hell, try vintage shops and the Salvation Army.

If you don't want to supply pics, tell us your sizes so we have an idea of what we're dealing with here. Are you "heavy set" or "Chris Farley".

I'd go to a different store and buy a jacket. I'm sure you can find something somewhere for cheap. That's just me. I don't want any feelings of self consciousness or anything wondering if I should've worn a jacket or not.

it doesn't work like that for me. i need to buy from big & tall type stores and there is only 1 that i know about (the one i went to) which is like 45 minutes away.

How long is too long? When you sit down and lay your arms on the table is it the right length? When you outstretch your arm to shake a hand is it too long? If so you should be fine.
