Got a job interview. Need ATOT suggestions for a suit (brand, where to shop).

edit: budget is maybe $200? idk what's reasonable.

unless you are interviewing at a high end fashion boutique, the employer wont be able to tell the brand of suit you are wearing. Just find something that fits well and that's a fabric to your liking.
 
H&M if you are pretty slim. Their regular sizes are very slim, pants border skinny fit. Suits are about $150-$300 depending on material.

I've also heard about Zara and other cheap chains.
 
go to your nearest outlet mall.. try TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory.. You might be able to swing a suit from Express if it's on clearance and with one of their coupons.. Express suits have the best fit among all the "cheap" suits.

I was thinking navy or dark grey.

Would something from mens warehouse/jos a bank/whatever mega-sale suit place be fine? A friend told me I should stick with something 100% wool, not sure if those places would have that.
 
Well, at 200 bucks you're not looking at a great suit. You can get something nice and well made, but you're not getting a really nice fabric (may not want anyways, generally they are easier to damage.) A nice wool suit is more traditional, more conservative overall which is probably what you want to go for if this is for job interviews but if you found a synthetic that you really liked, go for it imo.

Also, try to pick a nice shirt/tie while you are there. I always find it easier when the suit/shirt/tie are all in front of me.
 
Man, some of that is interesting...

They need to tell people to buy dress shirts? The same people that need to be told to buy dress shirts need to be told not to wear a 10k watch to an internship? Frankly I don't think a entry level "nice" pair of shoes or a watch should get anyone's nose out of joint but wearing a panerai or something could send the wrong message I guess.
 
is it faux pas to wear black to interviews?

if the suit is not solid black, but has some very light lines that make it easier on the eyes?
 
I don't know about faux pas but it's harder to pull off that professional look in black. Easy to end up looking like a waiter in a pretend fancy restaurant or like you're at a funeral. Light pinstripe would probably help a bit.
 
Dark grey suit (*NEVER* black), no pinstripes, no zoot suit. Just a plain dark grey suit. Make sure to have the suit altered to fit you well. Sleeve lengths should be appropriate and shoulders shouldn't be super wide. Flat fronts work best if they fit well, if they don't pleats should be OK.

White shirt that is freshly ironed and make sure the collars have collar stays (plastic is OK, metal is better)

Red or blue tie, nice knot that is centered with the tip down to the top of your belt. Short tie = used car salesman. Long tie = used car salesman.

No cufflinks. You don't have enough scratch (money or experience) to make it work.

Shoes should be captoe oxfords, freshly polished.

Don't wear a Timex. Have a nice looking watch, even if it is a citizen or something like that.

Get a folio for your resumes, don't get one with a calculator, bring your own if you think you need it (bring it anyway). That way you'll look prepped.

This combo has never lost for me. I have received an offer on about 80% of my interviews in the finance world.
 
I haven't owned a suit in over 15 years. Maybe I should invest in one, but I've never needed it for a interview. I wont' take jobs that require that kind of dress, and I won't over dress for a interview with casual dress in their office. Slacks, shirt, and tie is the max for me.

I guess it depends on the industry.
 
I have a navy pinstripe.

The suit cost 200 bucks at Mens Wearhouse, and all the other crap (belt, shoes, ties, shirts, hankies) was another 200.

Its always smart to have at least one suit on hand for whatever the fuck may pop up, even if your jobs are typically in jeans and ripped Grateful Dead t-shirts.
 
JCrew Factory Thompson. Supposedly one of the best off the rack fits you can buy. I believe they use worsted wool.

I'd go with navy or a dark gray if you just have one suit.

Other alternatives for a cheap suit would be Tommy hilfiger trim suit. Can get one cheap from macys or overstock. Bar III suit. It's a Macy's store brand suit. Cut very slim and modern. Alfani Red suit is less slim and less modern. Their pants might be a little too loose fitting for you. Express should be around $200 or a little bit more. < $200 with a good sale. They've got a stretch producer suit, which has a good fit. Maybe a little too much shoulder padding. They've also got a more modern/slim fitting photographer suit. I think their suits use peak lapels, which some people don't like as much. Target makes a suit, which is pretty good. Pants are a little less modern. Cut of the suit is decent. Definitely some synthetic materials.

just go to syms or men's wearhouse or jos. a bank and pick a dark gray or navy blue suit with two or three buttons. any salesperson can measure you so you know which size to get and they can perform alterations for you.
 
At $200 for a suit - the Tailoring will be more important than the suit**

A good tailor can make a cheap suit look good** Expect to pay $60 - $75 for tailoring** Pants will need to be hemmed/cuffed, jacket sleaves will need to be shortened, jacket may need to be taken in**

Do your best to avoid Polyster and go for wool or wool blend**

Buy black lace up shoes, black dress belt, white dress shirt and a conservative tie**

If you get called back for a 2nd interview and must wear your suit again buy another shirt in a solid color and another tie - the tie for the 2nd interview should be bit louder**
