Suicide Note

Strange. It's not too common to leave one, much less a whole book.

Seems like he wanted his death to have some kind of "meaning" where as most just want to die.
 
It was obviously not a rash decision. While I disagree with suicide, at least it wasn't because some chick dumped him or he failed out of school. He had a purpose behind what he did.

Kudos to him in doing what he believed in, even if it goes against social norms (especially if that was the point).
 
Sounds like a grade A wackjob to me. Sorry to be so frank.

He did show clear signs of distress but nobody helped him.

Yup, I feel the same way, except he definitely has confirmation bias.

Basically, he lost his father at a young age and decided to prove to himself that existence is meaningless.

And he did.

He has a lot of interesting material in there, I skimmed through most of it, and nothing too novel but still scintillating material nevertheless.

I agree. I only read the article and skimmed his book, but the guy sounds smart and reasonable. He is right, after all, that life really has no real purpose. Impressive work IMO, but I doubt the world will appreciate it, at least not right now
 
in the end, what does it matter if he lives or dies, or anyone else for that matter? There are 7 billion of us who will certain all be dead like him 100-120 years from now whether we choose to be philosophical or not.

Who cares if life has meaning or not? we all have a choice. Why let that choice be dictated solely by logic and reasoning, it's so boring that way.
 
It's the family that I feel sad for. They must feel like shit, I've been through this, and it affects you for the rest of your life.

He says a lot, but upon examination he's lacking. He came to the conclusion without much evidence (other than quoting Dawkins) that Jesus was the bastard child of a Roman soldier. I mean it's a neat theory and all, but he then launched off of that as if it were established fact.

I think he was a verbose emo kid.

Well to have a good time, you usually have to work fairly hard for a good amount of time. If it is all worthless, some people don't wanna bother, nor do they wanna be a homeless person

same. grade school friend hung himself this past january with a bed sheet from a god damn ceiling fan. it'll eat at me the rest of my life knowing i was sitting having a beer with him a few hours before he did it and never picked up one single vibe.
