So I've been talked into going to LotR on opening night and I'm curious as to how early we should get to the theater. I've got advanced tix for a 7:30 show. I tried to pick a not as popular, but not crappy, threater in hopes of smaller lines, but still a good a/v experience. I do have the sinking feeling though that I'm gonna spend a long time outside in the cold. :(

Many theaters will start lining up people 30 - 60 minutes before the show and then let them in 15 - 20 mins before it starts.

Why would you want to get there early? Every theatre I have ever been to, all the seats are the same. And if you've got tickets you're gauranteed a seat. I don't get it.

What??!!! You mean to tell me you're not ALREADY at the theater? :) I think how early you get there depends on where you want to sit. You know all the showings are going to be sold out, so if you don't mind sitting in the front row on the right or left, then you could get there 30 mins ahead. But if you want middle center, you better get there 4-5 hours in advance I think.

I, for one, will try and watch it maybe Friday night or so. I've read the books 4 times already, so it's not like someone could spoil it for me if they see if first ;)

There's a brand new theatre in my area with 16 screens, and 4 of them have advanced numbered seating so you have it waiting for you. It seems awesome but I haven't utilized it yet, just discovered the theatre to see nemesis.

Any other areas have that?

okay then you sit in the front row. and if you've got tickets you're not guaranteed a seat to sold out shows because people always somehow sneak in. and you won't be able to sit with friends if you've got a party > 4 or so if you don't get there early. silly people.

I'm going w/a 2 other people so sittig together would be nice, but not needed (and I detest sitting so close to the screen that you have to turn yer head left and right to see all of it). Also, I don't want to be still waiting to in line to get my seat when the movie starts. Of course the last time I went to a big show on opening night was before the trend of showing 10 f**king minutes of godd@mn commercials on top of the 3-5 fu**king trailors before the movie actually starts! It's a pet peeve, can ya tell? ;)

you'd prefer to sit in the very front corner of the theater sandwiched between two fat women and seperated from your friends instead of being able to sit where you wish?

I have advanced tickets for the showing on Tuesday 11:59 PM. :)
I plan on getting there 5 hours before the show. I also plan on getting the best seat in the house...back row middle. Also, I got a bunch of friends comming so we all need good seats. Its a group of about 15.

I thought about hitting that show, but getting up for work Wed morning would be murder.

Hehe, when the second starwars came out, I saw it opening night. Then the next morning, instead of going to school, I got back into the line and watched it again. THEN that very night, I saw it once more with some friends. The theatre I was at didn't do advnaced tickets so as long as some one wanted to sit in lines for about half a day then it was all good!

I'll be there for the opening matinee with a couple strombolis and
juice tugged in jacket:D. Why watch it in wee hours in crowded theater, while you can get any seat you want in the afternoon?

5 hours before the show? That's crazy. You must go to a really popular theatre or something! :Q
LOTR:TT is a 3hr movie, so make you you take care of your bathroom duties prior to the movie! ;)
And "good seats" vary by the person; I prefer in the middle of the theatre, middle of the row. Hope that made sense. :D
