appears to me that you're helping to build a gaming-shifted computer for your co-worker due to the inclusion of a 7950GT. however, i would suggest going for a dual-core (opteron 165?). also, i see that he's buying a 1x1gb stick. This might hinder performance by a little bit, so unless he plans to upgrade to 2gb go for either 2x512mb, or 2x1gb. or is it just cause of insane memory prices?

nicely rounded off. budget thought please?

The budget was $100 for each component (give or take a few $$) with the exception of the video which is $250-300.

Thanks for the reply Chubbyfatan. He will be getting another 1gig of ram in another month or so after the system is built.

I would have to say no to the DFI board for various reasons; something like this Gigabyte would be a better choice.

I would also strongly suggest a dual core X2 Athlon.

I'd recommend not going for a 939, for the future. If needed, you probably could cut back a teensy bit on the GPU ;)

Operandy, thanks for the reply but the Gigabyte link is showing a list of motherboards with different sockets. Can you list the specific model you were trying to refer to? Thank you.

I would stay away from any gigabyte board, i have had two and each one gave me problems, i now have a friend whoose memory sockets died.

That DFI ultra d is a great board, once u know how to use the bios of it properly its sweet, cause you cant make it not post (it applies the bios settings after POST) well unless some of the components don't work. Then again thats prolly only importat if u overclock.

Getting the x2 would also be nice, makes a huge difference in multitasking
