suggestions on netbook for 7yr old

Homerboy

Lifer
So my 7 year old daughter really REALLY enjoys playing on the computer (art and drawing sites and programs, all the cutie little girl websites etc etc). She mentioned she would like an iPod for Christmas so she could listen to music in her room etc, and then she realized that if she got a laptop she could not only listen to her music but play on it too and watch videos on it (Xvids)(brilliant of her).

The problem is I haven't paid attention to laptops, let alone netbooks at all in my lifetime... except that they exist, I use one for work etc etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent (but relatively cheap) netbooks out there? If it happens to come in pink or a color, she may just explode.

dell netbook has some colors but i wouldnt recommand mini 10 try mini 10v and i remember visiting computer store few months ago Lenovo netbook has sexy designer pink color. anyway make sure to look for netbook that can be memory upgradable so you can add more memory in the future if she begs for win 7.

Also consider the Latitude 2100, which was designed for use in classrooms. It has options for a touchscreen and an anti-microbial keyboard. The exterior is also made of rubber, which would prevent against scratches and dropping. It comes in black, blue, green, yellow, and red.

Thanks for the suggestions guys... color is not a "must have"
I'm really looking for something affordable that she can actually still use (she'll just be watching videos, listening to music and of course going to her favorite sites like webkinz.com and crap like that).

I have a latitude 2100. I must say i like it alot. my only complaint is that the mouse pads make more noise than i am used to. best netbook so far i have had/used. very durable. delloutlet has them as low as 239. they have onboard either 512mb or 1gb of memory, max is 2gb (have to get the 1gb onboard and add in a 1gb stick, adding a 2gb stick for 3gb will not work). The hinges are nice and strong, very kid durable. The outside is a rubber coat, not a glossy fingerprint magnet coating like on most everything else. Oh, also the latitude 2100 has a light on the back of the LCD that lights up when the wireless is on, so you can know if the internet is being used.

I dont see any that cheap?...

earlier today the cheapest was 259, a few days ago some were 239. just need to keep checking back every so often through the day. as stated above, the 2100 was designed for school, definately is very sturdy and strong. I have used one of the 2gopc's classmate netbooks (which was also designed for classrooms) and this way above that. One of the things i like about it is separate volume buttons, you dont have to use the function key and another one to mute, turn up or down the volume.

now, to upgrade the ram, or the sata 2.5" drive inside of this, you have to remove the battery, then remove two screws, that alows the keyboard to be removed, there are three screws under the keyboard that need to be unscrewed. once that is done, turn it back upside down, and remove the 4 screws in the corners of the 2100. then the bottom comes off and you have access to the single ram slot and the hard drive. Sounds like alot of work, but it does make it a very sturdy and strong netbook.

Acer Aspire One netbook is available in pink. Walmart has it for $288, so you may be able to check it out in-store. The only limitation of a netbook may be that your daughter may not be able to play HD videos without dropping frames (due to the Atom CPU). This includes HD Flash streaming video. Regular stuff is no problem.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-48 on eBay for arround $200. Child-proof 🙂 And there are sellers that offer them painted in many colors.

after post this i was reading about 2100 on other website and it looks good for educational purpose i think you should get one for your daughter who want to outsmart you
