Suggestions on internet plans

I'm moving to a new apartment after having been in an on-campus dorm the my past year where internet was provided. I would ideally want a very fast internet service that's not bundled with TV or phone (don't need either of those) for a minimal price. I plan on using the internet to do my work, play games (xbox live and PC), and plenty of downloads. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to get? Verizon FiOS is not available in my area (Baltimore, MD) as far as I know. Thanks!

If you want / need a landline and premium tv, I think you will get the most bang for your buck with one of those $100 bundles of telephone, tv, and internet.

If you can live with cell phone alone and don't make a lot of calls, and call live with Over The Air HDTV, here's a good matrix of prepaid cell phone plans: http://www.cellguru.net/prepaid_compare.htm

I use Page Plus Cellular and have been very happy with it. I have a Slingbox at my parents place, so I can watch cable tv when a particular program I want to see is on (picture is coarse and quite pixelated, but is still watchable).

I'm a recent college grad so I won't need anything than fast internet. I'd prefer to stay away from those pricey bundle deals and just get the internet itself.

Comcast cable? Maybe you should look at dslreports.com or something to see what's available in your area... or maybe the yellow pages?

I'm looking at comcast right now...anyone experience any differences between their 12 Mbps and 16 Mbps services? They have a promo going for their 12 Mbps for $19.99/mo for six months but I can't install it myself because I'm not a current customer so I need to pay $99 for professional installation...wtf?

Um? You never have to pay for installation. They usually *wave* that fee.

Check out (Baltimore) Sunday papers and see if places like Best Buy or Radio Shack, etc. are offering big rebates for signing up for new internet service.

Tech Bargains dot com might have some plans that are available nationally.

edit: you could also google for something like comcast internet offers / promotions / deals / etc., then see if Comcast telephone operator can give you deal you found on internet (would get confirmation number and some sort of CSR ID to document deal).

I am using naked DSL <no phone service because I already have a cellphone> for broadband. I am not into tv much anymore so no cable for me.
