from the reviews I've read, the heatsink for this Patriot card is very hard to remove.

I'm thinking:
  • a razor to "slice" off the heatsink from the thermal pad
  • or a heatgun to "soften" up the pad and then maybe a razor
suggestions/thoughts? thanks

PS: I want to use the nvme heatsinks that comes with my Gigabyte aorus extreme motherboard

dont... just use the stock one as if you remove that heatsink, you can risk ripping the IC's and may also void your warrenty.

I put a heatsink on my Sabrent 2TB. I had to peel off a label. Totally worth it. Reduced temps by 10°. Do you have a link to your drive?
