Carrier pigeon!

Seriously, I took mine down to The UPS Store and had them pack it for me and got it insured. If anything happens you're covered

You can buy a laptop shipper. It's a special box with padding in all the right places. As suggested above, a shipping "store" likely will have one (good luck at the PO, I doubt they have it). And the three most important words? Insure, insure, insure.

Have the company sending it pack it and insure it. Make sure you insure it with the right option so that if your laptop is worth more than their limit, it will still be covered fully in terms of money.

You want to pack it? Packing peanuts, those things with a bunch of bubbles that are fun to pop if your a kid, ummm.... if you want some really good packing you can get some cheap pillows and use those too... but thats going a bit too far

Oh yeah, when you pack it, make sure the laptop is in the center of all the packing, not a side like another idiot ;)

Mine was packed in this box I'd never seen before. The cardboard inside was shaped so that it would hold the laptop in the middle, and had plastic covering a big square hole in the middle, and that held it there pretty well. I'm pretty sure the box was made to ship a laptop. It seemed like a safe box for something like that.

i figure ill let the packing people do it. im sending it in its holding bag and everything, its a bit old so im not too worried about it being worth more than their insurance limit.

Find a cheap, ratty laptop bag from a friend or something, then put that in a box with lots of padding.
