I have been using Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 for almost ten years! I love them, but the amp in the sub died. Is there any other speakers out there that compare to these or are better?
I don't know that brand or model. I just hook up my hi-fi's auxiliary input to the computer's audio-out.
What's your budget?
I bought some Logitech speakers that I'd hardly call cheap for a customer, but IMO they weren't that good - there was a cheap set of speakers that I used to recommend to customers but those have been discontinued. IMO they put most of the 'famous / decent' brands to shame.
Well I paid like 200,00 for the Klipsch ProMedia back in 2002. I'm thinking around $300.00 for something nice now. They still have the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 out. If I could get another amp for the one's I got, I would do that.
Do the Promedia's just use standard speaker wire? I think that they do. In that case, you could easily resuse the satellites with any amp that you want. You'd still need to get a new sub, but a discrete component is going to kick ass compared to what is in the box. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107PSW108/Polk-Audio-PSW108.html?tp=187 Polk PSW110 $120 Denon AVR-1612 $200
Total: $320
This plus the Klipsch satellites gets you started on a decent component system. You can upgrade the satellites down the road to something with bigger and better drivers.
