Suggestions: Networkable 802.11b PDA

I'm planning on making my next 'big' purchase sometime in the near future, but would like some input before I do so. I have recently set up an 802.11b wireless network in my house (Linksys) and would like to take advantage of its capabilities. Currently, I have a (crappy) Palm m100, which does a decent job of keeping records and to-do lists, but it is ultimately not what I need...err...want. From a networking standpoint, what is my best option? Am I better off going for something like the Toshiba e740, or would it be cheaper/better for me to buy a solid PDA along with a wireless expansion card?

Basically, here are my standards:

- Color
- 32mb (64+ would be nice, of course)
- 802.11b (out of box or capable)
- non-Palm OS (Windows CE)

Oh, and how much is this little project going to cost me?

Thanks ya'll,
Zach

I just bought an e740. range is good, I can link to my D-Link 713P from anywhere in my house and out in the back yard as well. The one real advantage to the E740 is that it has two slots free and has Wireless.

Amazon.com has it for $546 less a $100 rebate for $446 in total. You can't beat that price for what you get.

Does anyone have any experience with a wireless PDA expansion card? How do they compare to the Toshiba?

Thanks,
Zach 🙂

I haven't used the toshiba, however I do have an older IPAQ 3635 which came with windows CE and has been upgraded to PPC2002.

I then went out and bought a d-link wireless compact flash card ($40 a couple of weeks ago at CC) and connected it to my network. I works just like my laptop does as far as the network. I can surf, view my mail, etc.

My one gripe has been that the expansion card blocks the ability remove the unit from the expansion sleeve without first removing the cf card. When I take the IPAQ to work I don't want the wireless card or expansion sleeve. But I use the wireless connection to sync my unit. So to sync I have to put the unit in the sleeve, insert the card, then remove the card and then the unit to go off to work. I can't store the card in the expansion sleeve...

Other than that I love it. Wireless sync is nice.
