I need some sugesrtion for an inexpensive CPU, MB and memory. I do not need the latest hardware but rather something that will work well in spite of price. As my old computer went south i only wish to replace those parts. Hoping to stay with Intel but can be swayed to AMD.

Need a little more info... like what are you doing with it, and your budget. What are you replacing (the old specs.)

this will be used as a back up computer only, internet and file storage. I do not want to spend very much money for a cpu, MB and the memory. less than $200 if possible.

the old specs are not relevant, see other post, to be used as a back up computer only for internet and other non demanding tasks.

Like Bononos suggest, any Celeron/Pentium and a discount H81/B85 board. I like ASRock and Gigabyte budget boards myself, but anything on sale will work. If you live near a MicroCenter you can very often get discounted boards off the clearance shelf (open-box, discontinued, etc.)

Newegg has open-box stuff too...

Pentium G3220 ($57 Newegg)
Gigabyte H81M-H ($34, open box @ Newegg)
G.Skill 2x2GB 1333 DDR3 RAM ($28 Newegg)

$120.

Plus, a build like this can be updated with a much higher end CPU with a simple swap down the road if you ever have the need to.

Ketchup's link is a decent price if you need anything like a i5.
 
ok so i bought some new parts to resurrect my old computer, MP, CPU and some memory.
the MB is an Asus Z-87A,
the CPU is aG3220 Pentium...
G.SKILL F3-10666CL9S-8GBXL Ripjawsx 8GB 1X8GB DDR3-1333
