Suggestions/Improvements

CPU - 3200+ Venice. I said hold out until Dual Core comes down but that wouldn't be until Christmas so this was the next best thing (He will OC it)

Motherboard - DFI Lanpart NF4 Ultra; Doesn't plan on using SLI for the reason shown under the Video Card explanation

Video Card - EVGA 6800GT. Plans on keeping for 90 Days then stepping up to the 7800 series or R520, so no need for SLI.

RAM - 1gig Corsair Value RAM; Hands down best deal out there!

HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 w/NCQ; Quiet, NCQ, SATA, dont get much better. He barely uses his 60Gig right now and doesn't plan on doing any encode decode in the future so 120Gig felt solid

PSU - Antec TruePower 2.0 430Watt; IMO a little higher power couldn't hurt, but great rails (34A total). It was this or a Seasonic S12 series

DVD+RW - 3540A Best bang for your buck out there now.

He already has a case someone gave him (from what i hear it is decent quality but im not sure). He will be getting some Panaflo fans, and a CoolerMaster Fan Controller ($5 on SVC).

Seems pretty solid, i dont know what else i could do better. Any suggestions?

For reasons you've listed, the majority of the components are great, except for the DVD burner -- the Pioneer 109's better IMO (for one thing, it features 6X DL burn rate).

Hmmm it does appear to have a slight edge.... he says he wont be burning many DVD's at all so i dont think it should make a big difference. Much less Dual Layer. Are there any other features it has over it?

Found a review on the A09 (retail version of the 109, which other than the faceplate and some other minor exterior details are almost identical):

Pioneer DVR-A09XL

3000 should work just as well as the 3200 on oc'ing.

But dont people generally have better results with the 3200+

However you do make a good point.

The 10x multi with the 3200+ may come in handy when overclocking so I would stick with it unless you are on a really tight budget.
