I'd like to add a bit of low-end to my HT setup for movies, but I just can't justify $400 for this. Suggestions for an entry-level sub, or should I just not bother at this price point?

Also there's J&R

The yamaha stuff is dirt cheap. They won't relocate your foundation like a big ass SVS, but it's decent sound, a small footprint, and rather affordable.

You should be able to demo those Yamaha subs at Ultimate electronics or Best Buy.

I bought a set of wharfedale speakers off of ebay about 2 years ago for $90 a speaker. They were three way tower speakers (Sapphire 89's) and to be honest, the speakers are great. I'm not really *that* biased because I get complements on them as well from friends and stuff when they come over and watch movies. I've gotten quite a few comments on where I'm hiding my sub at. Truth is, I don't have a sub hooked up to that system. All the bass comes from the fronts with a rather modest 6" woofer on it.

If the punch coming from the 6" driver in my fronts is any indicator of performance, then I would imagine that the 12" in that sub can move some serious air as well.

Hang on, I'll check for some reviews.

Yeah, you gotta take the www.productXreview.com reviews with a grain of salt. Some of the reviewers ain't exactly MENSA material. :p

Thanks for the info tho....that seems about what I'm after. I just want to take some of the load off my poor little Sony front channel speakers. They get kinda flogged during certain movies.

If you do end up bidding on ubid, MAKE CERTAIN you look at the shipping prices. In the past, ubid has been notorious for sky high shipping rates.

uBid charges shipping per pound I think, so if they weights 50 pounds, that is at least $50 shipping + $5.95 handling fee or something.

Shipping can kill a good deal on a Sub. I got mine coming with free shipping but if I had to pay it would have been over $40.

I used to own Paradigm PDR-10. It's good for iexpensive A/V setup.
You probably could find it at about your asking price now for a used one (I bought mine used for $200 4 years ago). Try to get PDR-12 (with 12-inch woofer) if you can.

Check their website and read
users' review.

Like Jackhammer said...the Audiosource sw15. Mine should be here sometime later this week. Got it from Ubid for about 150 shipped. For some reason i cant get it to come up when i do a search for it, but if you click on speakers on the left hand side it should come up.

At 150, you cant buy a sub worth crap.
Try saving to ~200 and BUILDING THE SUB YOURSELF
you'll spank any "retail" subs atyour pricepoint!!!
