Question, I'm selling parts out of my current rig to a friend (mobo, proc) and need replacements. I won't have anything else as backup, but I don't have to rush buying new parts. I want to do it smart, trying to buy something that will last atleast another year. Looking for pci-e mobo for upcoming 6600gt. Looking down the road I would like to go SLI, but the date for boards to be out isn't that certain. Any suggestions? Intel or AMD, makes not difference, but from what I'm reading only intel has boards out for pci-e right now, which one is the bang for buck...

EDIT I'm still going back and forth from staying AGP for a while or trying the PCI-E. I haven't been keeping up on the PCI-E boards and would like some help with my purchase. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Nforce4 boards will be out in a few weeks, with pci-e for the athlon 64. Anandtech will probably have the first reviews, and hopefully, amd can meet demand for it's new 9nm socket 939 cpus at lower speeds. The 3000 was selling for $199, but prices may have changed.

Yes. I believe Dfi will offer one. Socket 754 prices will drop in a few days. But I would go with socket 939 for a few dollars more.

Not anytime in the very near future. If you're buying very soon your choices are only Intel.

So, is PCI-E in SLI so far away right now I shouldn't worry about it right now? With the "limited" budget i'm on I don't have the money for the new power supply, mobo and procs out now to really get into a good setup that will last. I've been reading and the A64 2800+ with the Chaintech nf250 mobo seems to be the best thing going in my price range/performance goal.
