I've just picked up a DFI Ultra-D board and an X2 but I need some better memory for overclocking. What do you suggest I pair up with this board? I'm looking for 2x512 by the way.

OCZ seems to be the most recomended for the DFI board, I've heard it doesn't like corsair, at least the value ram. My PQI turbo works well with it.

yes, that's a good choice as well. if you're a gamer, consider 4x512MB, esp. if you have a venice/san diego cpu.

I have an X2 3800+. I plan on trying to overclock it when the new memory arrives. Should I really go for 4x512?

I definatly wouldnt. 1gb is plenty of ram. Stick to 2x512 sticks. 2gb is definatly a waste IMO. I only have 512mb of ram and do photoshop, maya, hardcore gaming, compiling, encoding and I never have any problems. I cant see 2gb offering much for double the price. 1gb is plenty, even though there will be people who argue otherwise. If you have cash to burn for no reason, get 2gb.

BF2 definitely benefits from 2GB and it's inevitable that future games will do likewise. period. buy an extra gig later if you want but we all know you'll use it one day if not now.

Just the other day I made the switch from 2x512 to 2x1GB. The difference is amazing.

another vote for 2GB here!

The patriot 1GB modules are great by the way, just avoid corsair value select like the plague for DFI.

I use nothing but OCZ El Platinum REV.2 PC3200 for overclocking. Built 3 overclocked systems with it. great stuff.

Ok, the memory is here and it is nice. The question I have is this : How can I get all four sticks to boot in a DFI Ultra-D board? I have the latest bios installed but the computer won't boot with all four sticks. I am trying to get it to boot with my older OCZ PC3500 memory.

First boot it with 2 sticks, enter the bios.. Set the "Command Per Clock" to Disable, save it and turn it off.
It should work then i think.. hope ;)

You need to run 2T in order to get it to boot. The other option would be to clear CMOS with all 4 dimms in position. The problem is that the settings used for 2 dimms on an A64 platform will cause a no POST situation with 4.

A64s are only rated to 2T and DDR333 with 4 dimms installed. You on the otherhand are trying to run 1T at DDR400

no only the Newcastle and Winchester(sp?) are 2T and DDR333. Venice and above even X2s are 2T and DDR400 with 4 Dimms installed. Probally the fastest option is 2x1GB with the fastest timing you can find. But how important is that 2-5% 2T or 2-5% faster timeing is your choice on how you like to spend your money.

Well I followed Gogar's instructions and disabled the command per clock in the bios and that allowed me to boot with all four sticks but it did default to ddr333 no matter what I tried. I took the old memory out. As of now, I'm running at 230fsb 1:1 with the cpu at 2.3Ghz. It's idling at 38C as we speak on the stock heatsink. Earlier I managed to get the ram to run at 270 with more relaxed timings but the cpu was at an 8.5 divider. I didn't care as much for that. I think I need better cooling. I have a horrible generic case that has poor airflow. I'm going to get a Lian Li PC-7B Plus and then maybe a Big Typhoon or an XP-90. After I get my cooling situation in better shape, I'll go back to trying some more aggressive overclocking.
