1. i've read a lot of reviews where it says the NorthBridge fan on the IC7 is extremely loud..........how loud is extrememely loud? 35 db? 40db? 50???

2. wut should i replace it with? a heatsink? or a heatsink and a fan?

3. i'm going to try and run a 2.4C OCed to 3 or near 3 on the IC7.......so will replacing the loud IC7 fan with the solution from question #2 keep it cool?

thanks a bunch

if your oc'ing, a heatsink and fan is a must for a northbridge

maybe a vantec copper iceberg cooler and use some kinda thermal adhesive to stick it on.. i thought a newer version of the ic7 series had a new quieter northbridge fan..

Get the motherboard first then decide. I got a refubed one on Newegg a couple weeks ago and it was outfitted with a quiet one. Probably <25dBa

I would deff wait till you hear how loud it is before making any changes to it.
I have a IS7 which I bought off a guy here Orion1744 who replaced the original hs/f to the ThermalTake Tiger, seems to work ok as I don't hear it over the sound of the rest of my fans and hard drives.

I have a Abit IS7 mobo, which has the same HSF for the NB as the IC7. Didn't find the the NB HSF was loud. It fit my system fine. Had to RMA the IS7 to Abit the beginning of July, I got my IS7 back with the new HSF that abit is putting on them. Seems quieter than the original fan.

I think excaliberpc.com has the new Abit NB HSF for $5.00 plus s&h. I think the new fan looks and sounds better than the old design, but I didn't have a problem with the old hsf. Didn't think it was loud.
