I jumped on a woot deal this AM for the Sansa e250 as its just what I needed for my daughter for Christmas.

1 Question (please forgive my MP3 newbieness) where is a good place for me to download the songs to put on it for her?? Basically I will be loading it up with Disney type stuff that she loves (ie High School Musical, Jonas Brothers, Crazy Frog etc etc).

Can you guys point me in the right direction???

Thanks in advance.

Another NOOB question.

It looks like in order to put music on an MP3 player and "keep" it to listen (sans a computer) I will have to pay the membership and then pay per song .. is that right??

Or is it that I can just pay a monthly membership fee and be able to put all the songs I want on the player and that's it??

Sorry for the simple questions but looking at these sites I am a little confused with what you get for the membership fee.

Thanks

One or the other. With Napster-to-go or Rhapsody-to-go you pay a monthly fee for unlimited free downloads/transfers (note...you lose those songs when you cancel). However, you have the option of NOT paying a monthly fee and downloading per song, like iTunes.

Ok but if I download the songs and put them on my new Sansa e250 and then I cancel service a month later .. how do I lose those songs?? Does the player need to access the internet each time I press play on the MP3 to "activate" the song or is this just an ethical thing (ie I should delete them once I am no longer paying the monthly fee).

Again thanks for all the helpful tips.

Is there an MP3 for Dummies book or site somewhere ;)

not each time you play them....but it will "reactivate" the DRM license on those songs when you sync(or charge) with your computer. I'm not entirely sure how long the DRM license lasts until you need to sync again, it was about a week after I canceled my Napster-to-go trial that my Sansa yelled at me to re-sync.

In case you're wondering, I didn't cancel napster because I didn't like it...just cuz I wanted to try the competing services before actually paying for one. I haven't used Rhapsody yet, that's next.

Ok I think I got it now.

Basically I can go 1 of 2 routes:

1) So if just opt to go with say Napster Unlimited for $12/month or whatever it is I can download say 200 songs to my MP3 player and I am good to go but every so often I will need to "resync" it with my computer/internet to keep listening to them.

2) Do no membership fee and just purchase each song I want for what appears to be about 89 cents each. There will be no need to "resync" since I will own that song outright.

Regardless of which option I go with listed above I will always have the ability to convert my existing CDs to MP3s since I already own them.

Sound about right??

Get whatever you want but SAY NO TO DRM'D CONTENT!
First you rent the music you listen to, then you rent your underwear.

You could download music for free from torrents. A good torrent application would be limewire
