just mimic the phonetics, no reason to understand it. I don't know Japanese, I just pick up expressions from watching anime.

Not everyone's brain works the same. I try to avoid non-English stuff. Even if I have to watch some foreign stuff, I just focus on the subtitles and my mind doesn't pay attention to whatever gibberish they say.

Well, I only know of English (American) stuff and really the only slow crooner stuff I know of is from years ago. Probably the most recent would be Lou Rawls. He's got a ton of stuff. Mathis and Boone are too corny and lounge lizard type. Sinatra may be too out of date.
