suggestions for a home scanner

uses [in increasing frequency] :
scanning the odd document for reports etc
photocopying
scanning photos to email around the farflung family!r

i like the sound of the canon lide30 but wonder what else is as good but cheaper?

Well for the price (appx.$70) the Lide30 is hard to beat... I use the Epson's Perfect 1200 series but they run more $'s

I've got a Canon CanoScan N 650U (LIDE).

I like the fact that it's powered through the USB cable, and the fact that it's so skinny. However, it scans a little slower than I would like (depending of course on the quality, color, etc.). For what you would be using it, I think it would be great (or maybe a newer model). You can get them pretty cheap online. Check eBay and Pricewatch.

The LiDE 30 is about as cheap as I would go. The LiDE 30 and HP 3500C both have good bang for the buck, but they won't break the bank.

The cheaper scanners have crappy drivers and crappy software. I bought a Mustek retail that didn't have Windows XP drivers. WTF? What other OS comes on computers these days?!
