Suggestions for a Deep Fryer?

Poking around Amazon right now...kinda sorta thinking about getting a deep fryer for hot wings, corn dogs, fries, etc. Any suggestions? 🙂

I've been wanting a Deep Fryer for a while, but never got one because I keep hearing how unhealthy they are. Not that I care a whole lot, but it's probably really unhealthy. I couldn't think of anything to deep fry besides chicken anyhow...

I wouldn't imagine it to be any worse than eating at fast food places...

I've got this one. Only bad thing with this is the size. 2 people it'd be fine, 4 you'll be cooking for awhile. We have 2 kids and it takes some time to cook chicken as we can only put about 3 good size tenders in at once. The cleanup part is what I like, once the oil cools down you can set it on the oil container and it drains out the bottom, straining it as it goes down. then you can just toss the upper part in the dishwasher and be done with it.

Didn't you just buy a BBQ? What's next? A commercial refrigerator? 😉

Charcoal BBQ, got it for my birthday. It was rainy today, which is what inspired the deep fryer thread 🙁

You should get a backyard canopy. Isn't a deep fryer a little over the top?

overboard. certainly a backyard canopy would be a cheaper alternative to purchasing your own deep fryer (healthier as well)

We use to have one of those smaller cylinder looking ones. I don't think they do justice. You need one where the temp could be set from cook your own testicles, to hell on earth for the food to come out good.

The food I made came out oily and greasy obviously, but everything I ate from it just tasted like vegetable oil. I would much rather use an oven or skillet.

They're like $40 on Amazon, the pricing isn't bad at all.

Get a Fry Daddy! They fry excellently.

I've got a Fry Daddy and am pleased with the output. You can make really delicious food cheaply and easily. One piece of advice, get the biggest unit you can afford and that you can find counter space for. The small ones are pretty cramped and you need to do food in a lot of small batches. Popping an extra $10-20 on a larger model will save you a lot of time down the road.

I have a Regal brand it works great...I fry all my stuff in olive oil then change it out after a few months( use it maybe 4 times per month or so)

Avoid fried foods. Bad for you.

Steam or bake instead.

its not god-awful

when i got one i used it like crazy. thats bad. i rarely use it now, but keep it since ive already got it

if i didnt have one, id likely stick with a large, heavy pot and a thermometer.

oh, and fryers are a bitch to clean. meh

did my research on fryers... there arent many on the market, and most of thm just arent that good. most feel very flimsy. more importantly, they dont get hot enough, and the capacity is so small that they dont retain that heat once you drop food in.

i bought one from William Sonoma... the 2nd to top of the line that they have and im pleased with it. forgot brand name..about 120$

the alternative is ofcourse just deep fry in a big pan and use a deep thermometer to check temp.

just remember to filter your oil after youre done, mix in a bit of new oil to keep it fresh, and store in a dark place to keep it from going bad

Bought this one from Costco for ~50. It's alright but it would be nice if it was deeper and
run hotter...maxes at 375.

Amazon link

I use it mainly for Taco's every 3 weeks when I go off my diet. I use corn tortillas with
Canola oil ( better oil?) and really like them. I bought a single Taco fyer tool and fry each one for ~2 min
to get a crispy shell. I'll be trying some Fish this weekend, still need to check how to batter and what type of fish is best
I have tried Fries but they seem a little soggy. Information online suggests soaking the potatoes in cold water for 5 min, limiting the amount of potatoes, double frying ( fry for a minute and then take them out for a few minutes and then refry) but still not as tasty or
crunchy as I would like.

olive oil isn't good oil for frying, the smoke point is too low.
