Suggestions fo Laser Printers needed MUST BE DURABLE!!!

I need to suggest a laser printer that will hold up in adverse conditions, namely the service bay of an automotive maintenance store.

Any suggestions? We're currently using Okidata 10 ex's and they have a service life of about 6 months before they break down irreperably and have to be sent back to Oki to remanufacture.

Anybody work in a harsh environment and have a printer they like?


Any help at all would be seriously appreciated.

I think laser printers are somewhat already pretty durable. I got a 5 year old HP LaserJet standing on the desk and in my eyes it's as durable as a brick of wood, completely indestructible. It's been working flawlessly all this time. I suggest you get HPs instead of Oki.

I know people's opinion of Lexmark isn't the best, but there are a bunch here that just refuse to stop working. we have a 1650 that is printing like almost all day long, and a 616 as well. they are very reliable, I like them alot.

HP 4100. Expensive, but virtually indestructable.

I'm not sure how durable the Brother HL-1440 laser printer is but it is the best entry level laser printer you can buy, definitely giving you a lot bang for your buck than comparable HP laser printers do.

Here at work (corporate banking) we have HP LaserJet 5's which are real workhorses, other than the occasional printer jam and paper curling they continue to churn out thousands of crisp, clean, super fast pages every day.

Yeah I'm kind of leaning toward the HP LaserJet 5 or 6.

The only problem is I don't know how they'd stand up to being jacked around by mechanics all day.

i have never seen an industrial printer before... any printers i have seen in factories among the workers are dotmatrix printers, mainly cuz of the carbon copy stuff cuz of forms and orders and stuff..

I've heard some pretty good things about the new samsung laser printers ML 1210 (that is a personal one). Not sure of the business ones. Check cNet for reviews.

my brother-in-law is a mechanic and they have HP 5 and it has held up pretty well. though they do clean it almost every day.

they also got a Samsung ML-4500 about a year ago and it is still working great.

I put in another vote for the HP LaserJet 5-series. The ones I work with must handle close to 9,000 pgs a month, and keep working....for the last 4 yrs. At last check, one printer has printed over 450,000 pgs with only 4 major failures.

We use 3 tray lexmarks at work and they are constantly kicking out pages (I work at walmart and all signage is printed off of these)

We have an HP 5SI also, I literally print reems of reports a day on it for the last 5 years and it has never had a service call yet. Real workhorse that is. We have some giant Konicas and Cannons too but might be a bit out of your range that are really rock solid.

I don't work in a harsh environment(I assume you're not talking about corporate culture here)HP 5Si and 4000 series are really solid. Not that I think you'd ever consider a small printer for your purposes, but stay away from HP LJ 1100 and 1200. Those things are flaky and aren't even good enough to serve one employee for a long period of time.

The older HP Laserjets (like the 4si) are even more indestructable... We had some in the labs at college that had 500,000 + pages printed on them, and they were literally beat up by students every single day. They just keep going, and going, and going...

It's hard to kill an HP series 4000 printer..
