1. I will be mostly using my new computer for gaming (Starcraft II, Natural Selection 2, Black Ops, etc), watching movies and HULU.

2. Looking to spend around $1,500-1,700 US

3. Will be buying from the US (live in NY), looking mostly at Newegg so far.

4. Like to make it an Intel System and I like Asus parts.

5. I'm going to be reusing my Asus 24 Inch LCD, Logitech speakers, mouse and keyboard.

6. I have been browsing similar threads on AnandTech.

7. I would like to overclock if possible but do not have much experience (I have built other systems)

8. I plan to be using the monitors resolution of 1920 x 1080

9. I planning starting to buy components next week.

Here is the build i have come up with so far:

Let me know what you think! BTW my first time posting here on AnandTech 😀

You would be better going p55 + i5 for gaming. You don't need a $300 MB or pay $160 for 6 GBs... With all that money saved you could add an SSD and EVEN after that save some money.

edit:

Here's a better build IMO, I didn't use the promo codes so price can be better. Not counting rebates either.

ASUS DVDR - $20

Hell yes! David would be proud.

This is a much better build for the OP. Add a Hyper 212+ for some inexpensive OC, and he's all set!

Ok so after reading the comments here is my updated build. I still kept the corsair 750 with Asus drive combo because I will be buying a second video card later next year. My only question is what thermal paste to use?

The way your links output prices is hilarious.

Build looks good. Thermal paste is more or less the same; I happen to use Arctic Silver 5.

Thanks for all the help guys! With the combo and MIR the AX really only $25 more than the TX and it is modular. I'm kinda OCD about wiring and I like only using what I have to in the case. I should be starting my build next week some time. I may still end up getting the case and power supply and video card and getting sandy bridge in a few weeks. Not sure yet.

Never count on that MIR returning any money, and the XFX BE is also modular at $130, so that is pretty good savings at around 40%.

Well, with SLI, you're going to be plugging in every damn cable anyway, so modular doesn't buy you too much! :awe:

He's got a point. And besides that, I read an article about 2 years ago about modular PSUs. Too much leakage. Google it up if you're inclined to do so, otherwise stick with what you have. You've got a good setup.

Question: Why are you spending over $300 for Windows 7? I'm sure New egg has upgrade versions for far less. Not only that, Staples and such retailers sell the Family pack. I think it comes with 3 upgrade licenses for $200. (or somewhere around there). I think I saw a thread on Fatwallet about how some people were getting it for even less than that with a rebate during Black Friday.
