Suggestion for the Harris campaign. Agenda for 2025

A People's Bill of Rights.

First question, "don't we already have a bill of rights?" We have a piece of paper that says it is a bill of rights but did not include all people.

Reason for it. We have an out of control SCOTUS that is taking away people's right they disagree with. People thought they had rights because of settled court cases but this court has proven it doesn't mean anything. We will correct this by enshrining a list of people's rights into law.

First crack at list of rights. Rights taken/threatened by SCOTUS. This can be the Democrats answer to Project 2025 and see which people prefer.

Codify Roe into law.
Obergefell into law (marriage equality)
Loving v Virginia (interracial marriage rights)
Rights to practice all forms of legal birth control
Unfettered rights to IVF as practiced
Voting rights. Fix the preclearance rule GOP had removed in 2013. End political gerrymandering.
Revoke Presidential immunity.
Overhaul Presidential ethics laws/rules.
Revoke Citizens United.
Campaign reform. Complete transparency. No anonymous donation to parties, campaigns or PACs. Straw donations will be a felony.
SCOTUS reform. Term limits with the same ethics laws as federal judges. Define enforcement mechanism.
Brown vs Board of Education (yeah Thomas threatened that too)
Police Reform including a national database for police shooting and discipline problems. Tighten up/eliminate qualified immunity.

This would go a long way to clean up the real swamp. The country cannot be run by a group of unelected judges and/or a dozen billionaires.

Great idea however getting 2/3rds or is it 3/4 of Congress to even vote on this is impossible.
Small steps, get a majority in Congress, dump the filibuster and start passing legislation and fix the damn court.

Instead of a long annoying list..

Can we just go Vlad the Impaler on the leaders/ designers/ money behind project 2025?

Driving a stake through the hears of P2025 fixes future problems but we also need to fix current ones. Time for minority rule to stop.

If she...or the Dems come out with that as her aganda, she'll lose by a landslide. While many of us see the need and value of many/most of those issues, mainstream America qould probably find at least some of those off-putting.
Stick to the middle...get elected, then, IF the Dems get majorities in the House and Senate, try to get some of those passed.

Ok, I have an open mind. Which one of those could be considered off-putting and why?

Voting rights maybe? I'm saying compared to P2025 this will seem like the Magna Carta

Codify Roe into law. Religious people ate anti-abortion.

Obergefell into law (marriage equality) same. Religion

Loving v Virginia (interracial marriage rights) Same-religion (used to disguise bigotry)

Rights to practice all forms of legal birth control Some religious opposition, maybe not major

Unfettered rights to IVF as practiced

Voting rights. Can't be lettin "them people" vote! (Could refer to blacks, could refer to illegal immigrants, could refer to immigrants in general)

Fix the preclearance rule GOP had removed in 2013. End political gerrymandering.
Revoke Presidential immunity.

But the president HAS to have full, unqualied immunity to keep the nasty Democrats at bay.

Overhaul Presidential ethics laws/rules.
Revoke Citizens United.

Money is speech, corporations are people who are entitled to free speech.

Campaign reform. Complete transparency. No anonymous donation to parties, campaigns or PACs. Straw donations will be a felony.

Same as above.

SCOTUS reform. Term limits with the same ethics laws as federal judges.

Un-constitional. It would take a constitutional amendment to fix.

Define enforcement mechanism.
Brown vs Board of Education (yeah Thomas threatened that too)
Police Reform including a national database for police shooting and discipline problems. Tighten up/eliminate qualified immunity.

Don't have time now to address all of the points.

I still want this bill of rights:

Copied since this is a better thread for it:
The only way this will do anything is if Democrats really put together something like a small government bill of rights. Something like this that applies to all levels of government:
  • The government shall not force you to give birth.
    • The government will not force you to get sicker because of a miscarriage.
    • The government will not force you to die because of an ectopic pregnancy.
    • The government will not ban any form of birth control deemed safe by the FDA.
  • The government shall not get involved with consensual adult relationships.
    • The government shall not deny you from marrying any other adult.
    • The government shall not prevent interracial relationships.
    • The government shall not interfere with consensual adults in the bedroom.
  • The government shall not interfere with your right to vote.
  • The government shall not take away freedom of speech in school.
  • The government shall not interfere between you and your doctor.
    • The government shall not ban surgeries deemed necessary by a licensed doctor and deemed safe by the FDA.
    • The government shall not ban drugs or other substances deemed necessary by a licensed doctor and deemed safe by the FDA.
  • The government shall not retaliate against businesses that it does not agree with (Disney anyone).
  • The government shall not place one religion over another.
    • The government shall not legislate their form of morality.
    • The government shall not ban religious clothing.
  • Etc.
Hammer out that message incessantly. Say nothing but that message until the midterms elections are over.
