Suggestion for gaming mouse

I currently have a G9 which I am trying to get rid of because it is too uncomfortable to me. The G9 has no ass and I can't "grab" the mouse and it bugs me.

I had a G5 before this and I preferred the shape but still wasn't quite ideal. My favorite mouse shape is the MS intellimouse optical.

I also have an MS Sidewinder and its rear is too huge.

I am looking to stay under $30 and so far I am considering:

Microsoft Habu

OCZ Equalizer

OCZ Behemoth

Cyber Snipa intelliscope

Other things to consider: A soft middle click, it seems that all mice with side-scrolling have a stiff middle click. Soft buttons in general.

Hmm after some research it seems that the Habu may be best for me. Described as being shaped like intellimouse 3.0 and no side-scroll, which probably means a soft middle click. My only concern is quality problems I have read about.

I have the OCZ equalizer, and am quite pleased with it. I got on it fairly early on, and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. Over Christmas, Newegg dropped their price to $20, and I got two extras: one for my brother, and one for a friend. In one, the optical sensor was toast, and the other tracks much worse than my current one does, as in, side-by-side comparisons show mine to be better.

As for the shape, I like to hold the mouse with my thumb and pinky, with the heel of my palm resting on the desk, acting as an anchor. For sweeping movements, I'll pick up my palm, and rest my hand fully on the mouse. The shape of the mouse is nice, as it lets me rest the upper part of my palm on the back of the mouse, while making precise movements.

If it works, you get excellent, smooth, precise tracking. If it doesn't, you won't...With that warning, I would still give a cautious recommendation for it.

I haven't tried any of the others you listed.

I can say for sure that the Habu is a great mouse. I bought one used about a year and a half ago.. Still use it to this day. The original manufacturing date on it was October 2006 and its still working.. So i dont know about any quality issues either.

Im not sure what you mean by a "soft" middle click, the button is a softer plastic that most, and it doesnt take much to click it so in those 2 ways it is "soft"

The only one of those I've owned or even tried is the Habu, and I can say it's one of the best mice design's for a claw grip you can buy. I'm considering ripping the sensor from my Deathadder and modding it into a Habu shell

Yes by "soft" I mean easy to click. With my G9 if I want to middle click I have to smash it, increasing the friction between the mouse and mousepad and making it difficult to do middle-click panning in RTS games.

Quality issues of the Habu that I have read about are the cable losing connection with the internals of the mouse, driver and firmware problems, and skipping during quick movements. I'm not sure how serious these are since the people who are most likely to post are those with problems rather than those without problems who take the mouse working correctly for granted. Lots of people seem to really like the mouse too.

So I narrowed it down to Habu, Deathadder, and Diamondback. The Habu and Deathadder both have a shape very similar to intellimouse explorer, and the Diamondback seems small enough for me to be able to grab the whole thing, which I also like. I found a deal on the Deathadder and went with that, now I need to wait for it to arrive and hope that it is comfortable.

Skip a lunch and spend the extra $10.00 for a Deathadder which is widely considered to be the best gaming mouse available (not counting the new, very expensive, Mamba, which has the exact same shape as the Deathadder). The G9 is widely considered to be a very close second to the Deathadder, only smaller and for people who grip with their fingers (whereas the Deathadder is prefered by people who rest their hand on the mouse). If your problem with the G9 is that it is too small, then the Deathadder is the mouse for you.

I will leave you with this http://forums.anandtech.com/me...keyword1=deathadder+g9

*edit: woops! I just reread your post and saw in the last line that you went with a Deathadder, already. So let me revise my comments to say, Good choice.

if only the DA had two extra small "dpi" buttons and onboard memory it really would be the hands down best mouse for most...essentially a Habu with a better sensor than its trash first gen laser (which is only good for high sensitivity players)...or a Mamba without any wireless functionality...

Pure speculation - But, my first thought when I saw the Mambo, and the fact that it was the exact shape of the Deathadder (except for a small rubberized edge on the bottom of both sides for the thumb and pinky), was that this might be what Deathadder 2.0 looks like.

Mambo has two extra small buttons to the left of the left click button and on the fly 5,600 dpi, adjustable through either the two extra buttons, or you can set your scroll wheel to scroll dpi up and down in game and set the 6th and 7th buttons to be programmable. On the other hand, maybe Razer will figure that the two extra buttons are part of what the $130.00 price tag includes.

Also, Mamba is laser, not optical like deathadder, for whatever that is worth.

I'd have no doubt that they'd charge more for a DA with the features I mentioned, considering the Lachesis has an MSRP of $79.99, I'd expect a DA2 to be the same price, if not more, as I doubt it would feature a sensor less than the Mamba's. But what I was really referring to was a DA as it is now with the extras that its cousins/predecessors had (Copperhead and Habu for instance) for the same MSRP and certainly no more than $69.99 (ie $10 more than its current MSRP).
